This question is not related to the above, but a similar theme, & is addressed to Pleno. (Though anyone can chip in, of course).
In your well-deserved celebratory post, you wrote.....
Anyway, my opponents fall one by one until there is only me and RomeOpro left. He is a super, super good reg and
I wanted to deal
, but he wanted to get a 6 figure score and obviously I'm not giving anything up
This, to me, jumped straight off the page.
As you know, I just play tenner SNG's these days, so I've no idea what it feels like to be heads up for 6 figures.
I do know that when I was playing a lot of Live Poker, & final tabling for fun, (yes yes, I know, but it's true), I was always mocked, kindly mocked but mocked, for readily agreeing to "business" if it was offered. I would wager good money that 80%, maybe 90%, of the Final Tables I made ended in business. Which, to me, made sense.
I do know this though....
1) An oft-repeated mantra which you, me & everyone else will have seen thousands of times is "NO DEALS", sort of "
we are gung-ho men, we don't deal
" thing. I've never bought that line personally, it feels wrong to me & most recreationals, so I was quite pleased to see that stance from you.
2) You say the guy is a "super good reg", & I'm sure you are right, but I'm not sure you think he is better than you, false humility aside. Your record (see Sharkscope) is pretty neat, I'd say.
So why did you want to do business? Not a criticism - it's
quite the opposite
- but your stated views & reasons might be interesting to many.
Thanks.

When Educated Alun describes someone as a "sicko", you know you've made it.
It's just under 5 years since pleno wrote this (page 2 of this Diary)......
played 100 games and won 76, just off money though not this roll. Still looking for a suitable website, really confident in the actual games and the 10's/20's are ridic soft on ipoker/stars/tilt
Amazing really, quite unprecedented. If Pleno were a horse running in handicaps, he'd have gone up 3 stone.

Pads has turned into Frankel from a selling plater on the all weather at Kempton! Incredible scenes. Think doing business when you have no edge makes a lot of sense. Can totally understand why Pads would want to deal given his comments about said player. You are just buying variance.

Could not agree more, but how many times have we seen it said "no way, you should not deal"?
Players also insisted that MTT's should be top heavy, & yet, in my experience, they generally want to deal. Which suggests top heavy is wrong.

Great analogy. I'm not sure Pads will get it mind. He's more like Charlie Austin or Jamie Vardy.

The annoying thing is however flat the payout structure people still pressure you to do a deal.
I will only ever deal with mates. I like short handed poker so I prefer not to make a deal - especially when the payouts are so flat.

Football yesterday was interesting.
First half we played really poorly, we were way way way better than our opponents but our standard was no where near good enough for my expectations. We had probably 75% possession, the other team didn't get in our half almost at all, then at end of first half we had a corner, they broke and scored. Sighhhhh
Half time, regroup change things a little bit. Dominate first 20 minutes than BANG they score again, 2nd shot of the game. Changed things completely with our plan B that we prepared with in traibing.
2-1 after some great play.
We push on, dominate, probably 20 shots on goal vs their 2. Can't score.
Then boom 2-3, lets fucking go.
Super pumped at this point I drive the guys forward, the other team can't run anymore we have been attacking them for 85 minutes. I ask the linesman how long left, "6 minutes" our midfielder plays 2 1/2s and slides in our striker, he stays composed and vamooooooooooooo 3-2 in 15 minute turn around. I run to the corner mourinho vs man united style and celebrate with the guys."stay fucking switched on, slow it down, kill the game"
2 minutes to go we concede 3rd shot of the game and end 3-3
Lots of positives but so so much to work on. Am I the special one? Maybe not yet.
To be continued!

This year in the main event, someone who I'd already swapped 1% with pre tournament asked to increase the swap once we were both in the money. I had significantly more chips than the other person yet would have been happy to swap my 3 for their 5 or something along those lines if I had a way to calculate a figure that was fair.

Is the old school "no deals" more a factor of how few opportunities there were to win a large chunk?

It may have been, yes. I just remember seeing on here, & elsewhere, a constant refrain of (words to the effect) "deals are for wimps, go for the win".
So I was pleased & interested to see Pleno say he suggested a deal. Maybe the tide is turning, or maybe it was always like that, but folks did not like to admit it.

Hey, I think it's always dumb to not try to do a deal in such a big tournament. Essentially with the payouts we were playing a $30000 heads up sng with equal stacks. There is no way I or my opponent would ever register a $30,000 HUSNG against eachother. Usually put into a situation where I thibk I have an edge over my opponent I will want to deal bt would look to get a "premium" ie he pays me some money to deal because I have an edge and it needs to be reflected. Unless you have a really big bankroll or you think your edge is way higher than how much the other player is looking to compensate I think you should very rarely "play it out"
Regarding Alex question, I have no idea mate, if you ask the scumbag Russian, German or Portuguese his who do it every week then they will know pretty well
in fact in this tournament I was pretty sure there was a couple of guys who sold their accounts to superior players, either that or were sitting with very good players.

Played pretty badly today. Not sure why, will try to refocus for a huge Tuesday tomorrow.
Ended up coming 2nd in the .fr 6max which had for sure the toughest ever final 2 tables. Lost HU to my friend after having 640k vs 60k stacks. Never mind.
Anyway made it a profitable day which is good!
