In the context of the DTD events though is there not a huge difference?
Most sports people tune into see the favourite teams / players?
I cant see many people tuning into see Barry Neville swearing at Wadey on a Saturday night?
Then why do they want to televise an event?
There must be a market for it.
A small nod to the people provding the content of the programme is not unreasonable.
Actually youve changed my mind Keith. If there is demand for it then the players are providing the content and should receive something.
When I first thought about it, it was more the fact I cant imagine anyone wanting to watch it that made me think people shouldnt be paid.
This is obviously wrong or they wouldnt be filming it.
Maybe Mr Kendall could give me an idea of what sort of viewing figures and maybe even
a rough idea of what Virgin whoever would be paying to show this?
Paying for it? You jest!
To the best of my knowledge, TV companies don't pay for poker content, WSOP & WPT-stylee Events excepted.
They 100% do not pay for, for example, GUKPT-style coverage, ever. The TV Companies want free Content. I would imagine DTD have to find some funding to pay the TV Production Company, in fact.
Viewing figures for poker are barely measurable, & almost off the bottom of the scale. Hence the Poker Shows are always on at "dead tv" hours, Midnight, 1am, etc. If decent audiences were available, the Shows would be on at more sociable hours.

Question to Tighty/Mods - What is Jonny Hewston's involvement with DTD now? Is there a formal arrangement? I saw him organising some sort of TV sit n go the other week.
It's a question for DTD Cos. Yes I saw him there too but no I don't know the arrangement
I think you do......

Dead hours are a perfect time to be showing poker on tv imo anyway. alot of the target audience are going to be up at this time.
Who cares what time stuffs on with Sky+ anyway!

The Production companies charge someone for it. The Production companies & the Channel are not usually connected. It's a buy-sell deal.
I've no idea of the DTD deal, but I'll wager any sum you like that the Virgin TV Channel are not making it. They are televising what someone will Contract to supply to them for free. Maybe DTD are paying, to raise the profile of DTD. The TV Channel deffo won't pay though.

That's the key phrase though, Mitch. "Target audience". Which, in TV terms, is miniscule.

My best guess is that the total audience for this will be the same 200 people who actually play it.
I would imagine the £50 and £100 comps are just warm ups to iron out any bugs for the £100k deepstack, the Grandprix and then the £1k.

Correct - it's how Matchroom works, & it works very well for them, too.
Matchroom, meanwhile, Contract to provide to Ch 4, 5, or Sky, x-hours of poker content per annum. For free.
So, the Sponsors get TV airtime to promote their product, the TV Channel gets a free Show, the Production Company makes a turn, and the
artistes
- the players - get.....

RY said so in his diary
I think the viewing figures average around 200,000 on Virgin 1 at the time when the show will be broadcast

I'll say it quietly because I don't want to get shouted at...
Wouldn't it be nice to have some added money to compensate for being on tv.
Just a thought.
Lol.
It ain't gonna happen Keith.
In fact, they might not even allow the wearing of patches......
I'm not talking about alot of cash.
Just a wee bit to compensate the players for the annoyance of the cameras.
£2000?
Really don't know how players ever let it get to the point where a request for added money receives a "LOL" as an answer.
Can you think of another sport/game where the players shown on tv get zero for appearing?
I imagine there are numerous lesser sports which are grateful for any TV coverage (to raise profile, & "be on telly") & do it for free, but I doubt many are inconvenienced by it as much as poker is.
You must nearly throw up in the WSOP ME when every "all-in & call" results in a 2 minute delay whilst they await the arrival of the ESPN floor crew, & then, while the 2 poor sods await their fate, they have to endure a further 45 second delay between flop & turn, & turn & river. (And 95% of those hands never get past the Edit Suite) That TV deal is absolutely HUGE, & effectively bankrolls the WSOP, but the players get diddly-squat - but here's the thing - nobody complains, they are all happy to accept it. Go figure.
Hey Tikay, don't know how much you saw of the Day 1's at the EPT in London, but for me it was the first time EVER in an EPT that I can imagine where I felt like I was in the Rio. They were filming so many all-in showdowns taking several minutes sometimes to get over to each table because there was so little room. It was really inconvenient for the players (great for the press though as we knew where a showdown was going on).

I certainly did, I was there for both Day Ones, & scores of players were moaning & groaning about it. Even the more erudite, such as Tom Rutter, said it was OTT, & way too much. Play was intermittently delayed due to TV-Table issues. But it's never going to change.
Note I was there to get......TV Inteviews.
And the Sponsors were queuing up to give us their badged players, scores of them, one after the other, all wearing their badges. We even got Ivey, which was, of course, at Tilt's request.
