All this reminds of that geezer on THM a few years ago.

He bought up all the domain names of uk poker players and added poker after them.

He tried to flog me keithawkinspoker and keiththecamelpoker .com and .co.uk.

Yeah right mate, you'll be alright.

But you just have to think about the smart people who bought up the good domains and made a lot of money selling them on. The problem with poker players is that they are tight arses in the main. Apart from a small number of exceptions they won't flash the cash so you have to be very careful who you target or you are wasting your time.

He must have bought nearly two humdred of them.

You reckon the legend would pay £10k or whatever he was asking for Mickeythewormpoker.co.uk?

I was working at Blue Square when they changed their name to that from betonline.com

Unfortunately they didn't do enough research and a hippy had some weird shapes (no text) on bluesquare.com

They offered him alot of money for the domain name (maybe Jon Raab would remeber exactly how much) but I think about 50k and he turned everything down.

That's why for the first five years Blue Square's website was only accessible from bluesq.com.

Then, after I left the hippy forgot to renew his ownership and Blue Square got it for nothing!

Do ppl not understand supply and demand?

Once u buy the plate its not available for other ppl to buy

of course, but you are relying on the plate you but being attractive enough to be able to sell on other wise you are stuck with a load of £400 10/11 reg numberplates.!

James bought, I think FLIISHY?

Once Mr Dempsey decides he doesn't want it, where else is the market for that plate?

From the looks of it now being on offer in a sale, nowhere much is the market for that plate

On the other hand, it sounds as if sofa King has had a number of successes

If I were the DVLA I'd sell them all to the regtransfers of this world and kill the reseller market dead. Not sure why they are giving all the margin in the market to one man bands looking for a quick buck

flushy has made an offer.,...,.,but its not quiet enough FYI.,.,.,
LOTS OF OTHER FLUSHY'S OUT THERE
LUKE SCHWART.,.,.,FULL FLUSH 1..,LOTS MORE.,.,.,
ALSO FLASHY.,.,.,SO IM NOT WORRIED.,.,

Still don't get it.

Having a personalised plate is cool and all. And if there's one I liked I'd quite happily buy it direct from the DVLA. But that PAGODAS one for example with the business you want to sell it to. Why would they want to give you the money? I wouldn't. I might think "hmm yeah, that's cool, i'll buy it from the DVLA for £x". I certainly wouldn't pay £x*1000 to some random person who has bought it purely with the intention of making some money out of me.

Fair play to you though. There's obviously people out there with more money than sense.

Because someone else thought about buying it before you, pretty simple really. There are plenty of number plates out there that are totally unique 1 offs that mean something to an individuals but they do now know they exist. If your bright enough to know in advance that the 1 number plate you want is being released soon then good luck trying to get it, you may or may not. Most people will not have thought that far ahead that is why sofa is ahead of the game.

Some people like to have personalised stuff that is unique to them and are willing to pay for it, sounds like you are not one of them so you are not the target market.

Erm....

Well yeah.

All of them.

That's the idea.

Its not like your going to lose any money or anything. If a plate doesn't sell for your price then meh, lock up a small profit and move onto some new plates/stock, toasty life. Could be worse, you could actually be losing money like many business are. Seems like a low to nearly zero risk business to me.

Well if he gets 20 plates and makes good profit off two of them and a little bit off the rest of them job done. Hard to lose any money doing this, he will always get his money back if he is that far off the mark with any.
