don't think he's going to be doing player acquisition for us. looks like he's just the front man for wealthy investors

Wise favourite to land Addicks job

Sky Bet have installed former Leeds boss Dennis Wise as 1/3 favourite to succeed Phil Parkinson as Charlton manager.

Parkinson and his backroom staff were sacked by the Addicks board on Tuesday afternoon and Wise has come in from 8/1 to be the early front-runner.

Former Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke is also in contention as 10/1 second favourite, while Peter Taylor and Chris Coleman are both in the running at 12/1.

Sky Bet Football odds compiler Richard Browning believes Wise’s connections at the Valley could land him the position.

He said: “Wise was initially 8/1 when Sky Bet opened the book, but money for the former England player has flooded in.

“Charlton board member Tony Jimenez is a close personal friend of Wise and punters have realised this and backed the ex-Chelsea midfielder heavily.”

not sure wise is a good bet, pretty sure he's been lined up for an upstairs job so if he takes over it may well only be a temporary role and the market as usual is next perm manager

Chris Powell into 1/8 tonight

Would be sorry to lose him, he's much respected and adored at lcfc, and obviously as a Charlton legend won't turn down his first manager's job. Great guy, met him last year and was brilliant.

this would be immense but I won't get my hopes up just yet as both wise and howe have been at similar odds earlier in the week. it'd be a huge loss for you but think you're right, no way he'd ever turn it down if offered, he's worshipped at the valley

a powell/peacock combination would be my dream team

Has Wise been offered the job and turned it down?

assuming that's the shortlist that I'm aware of it wasn't the most realistic. it had curbs at no. 1 didn't it? not ever that likely, hope he gets an upstairs job instead

sir chris powell is at the valley now, I'm still trying to not get excited but wish he'd just hurry up and sign the damn contract

finally it's official and I can get properly excited. probably my all time favourite footballer is coming home and I couldn't be happier

is there a more respected man in football? I doubt it. it's great to read through not only the charlton forums, I know he's a legend to us, but also the leicester and southend ones. how can one player be held in such high regard everywhere he's been? I've never heard/read a bad word about the man

I've not really enjoyed football for the last couple of years, it's felt as though the club had no heart but thankfully the heart is coming back and I'm looking forward to next saturday more than any game since the playoff final, looking forward to seeing that huge grin walk out of the tunnel. the valley's going to be rocking
