Unless you are talking about medical profession, solicitors, or fund manager/banker I wouldn't over estimate grads salaries after even 5 years in a job!

just to chime in on the whole risk thingy.

My mum and Dad said to me that I was an idiot for playing poker I should get a job with prospects, security etc etc etc

Right around the time I saw hundreds of people who'd been doing jobs they didnt even like that much for 20 years getting made thrown about, forced into different jobs they hated, moved to different parts of the country and made redundant because the economy got a bit sticky.......

Bet all these people are glad for all that security they had.

***realise this is a pretty linear point in a complex argument***

Having to balance work vs play carefully these days. Doing alright, managed to book a small 145 win and cash out by midnight. Am now chilling in my room with everyone but we're having to be mouse quiet cos my students housemates are back and its exam period and they need to sleep at night (?).

Good to see a few blondes tonight at DTD who've turned up for the deepstack. Mbn DMorgan to get KK vs 88 on K83 rainbow in a 2/5 game. GL everyone for tomorrow, especially me! I've sold 60% of myself but still really motivated to do well and win people some monies.

Hand of the day: raised  two hearts, it came  got paid in two spots by QJ and KK.

1. A very interesting read..................... and very well written.
2. Alex worked at DtD the same time that I did, he is a lovely polite guy who I'm sure will do well at what ever he does.
3. I have played cash and tournament with Alex and he always plays AK suited very well.
4. When you are on my table.............  stop trying to bluff the old boy............... because I'm calling

Keep grinding buddy, keep believing............. you will amaze yourself as well as others at just how successfull you can become.......... best shot..... from  @thebar.

Do you have  set rules regarding the extra overheads that come with live poker?

i.e Tipping dealers, paying for meals while grinding at casino etc.

They have to pretty big hit to the bottom line of a live grinder especially when not playing very high.

I try and avoid buying food there, I always eat dinner just before playing and have a big bowl of cereal afterwards. Do occasionally opt for some cheesy chips, but not often.

Tipping is a bit more difficult. I like tipping dealers but feel so raped by the DTD rake that I've cut back recently and would rather just buy the dealers I like drinks on nights out etc, because they benefit so little from each tip but really appreciate drinks. Some dealers at DTD are really tilting though. Constantly commenting on hands, telling me their own bad beat stories. Even worse when I sit down at a new table and get the "I heard about your 8high bluff the other day" etc...

It's a whole life EV vs money EV issue and I'm not really sure of the solution.

I had an interesting spot the other day with AK actually. 4 handed on a big final table. I folded to a large raise. What would you do?
