Gutted about that photo actually. I didn't realise I was receding quite so badly :-(

Pretty sure it's just an illusion in the photograph...

Wouldn't want to crash the Gascoignes thread with details of how Deauville is treating moi....but...on with the show here, we've had 2 full days here and so far...mixed results. Pokerwise, not mixed results at all - thoroughly negative making the last 1/3 of the field in both the 1k FPS main (losing AK to JJ for a decent stack early on day two) and the 300 side event (losing QQ to AA for a 90k pot when the average was 30 - was particularly gutted by that one).

However our apartment is alright, company good (Ed, Ian staying elsewhere, sharing apartment with Deadman, Steve Warburton and arriving tomorrow Ben Jones and Luke Reeves (New poker FRIENDS  Grin ). Food is excellent but pricey, and the town itself is charment, but a little wet this time of year.

Players party tomorrow night, chill on sunday, perhaps grind online if the connection in the lobby is good enough and then the big day on monday.

Couples of moans about the French. OK might be more than a couple if I get into it.

They do everything wrong. Everything!

Registration for tournaments. Queues creep forward at the pace of their local delacay - the snail. It doesn't make any sense - once you get to the front it's actually quite an efficient process. (Well not like DTD where it's hand cash over, swiped in done. Here there's a wrist band per tournament!) But it's definitely a bearable process. So why does the queue go so painfully slow? Ed ascertained earlier that every local decides to have a lengthy chat with the cashier once he gets to the front. Catching up on the current affairs, the weather, the odd bad beat story or blackjack hand history. Why is this necessary!

Next point of tilt: tournament breaks. We're made to wait outside the main poker room during the break, fair enough. Then with a few minutes before the end of the break everybody meanders over to the entrance and looks to retake their seat. Oh no. Four bouncers are in the way. 2 minutes left on the break "can we go in please, the tournament is about to restart?".

"Non monsieur (looks at tournament clock), 2 minutes".

A huge mob is forming now. The bouncers wait until the break is completely over, and only then do they allow people in. Checking everybodies wrist band individually obv. Often I get stopped by a second bouncer for a double check after I've shown my wrist band to the first one. Just in case, you know.

Now the dealers are beginning to shuffle the cards and there's a mad scramble to get to your seat. There's a minute before the TD gets organised enough to restart the tournament, but more than half the field are still trying to get through the doors! The fittest survive and get to blind steal from 6 empty seats for the first couple of hands. Incroyable.

Double bet rule. You can't click it back properly, you have to double the bet, not the raise. Not important for any of the tournament stages I've made it too obv, but when on the EPT final, I want to be able to 5bet click to 2.2m over a 1.4m 4bet ffs! But I'll have to make it 2.8million. Oh well. I guess we can live with that one, but seriously France, sort it out.

So have France just changed the rules of poker then?!

That has always been the rule there since forever.

Same in Ireland I think. It was in the couple of tournaments I've played there anyway.
