Despite being insanely careful about what I write, who I write about, the style in which I write, I've heard some pretty nasty things about how people perceive this and other blogs and apparently it's part of the reason the games in nottingham have died. People don't want to be written about.
Show me a post in the past 2 years where I've disrespected anybody, spoken badly about someones play, anything like that. I just don't do it. I don't use the term "fish" or "whale" or "bowl" or anything like that. I don't brag, and I don't moan (much
). And if I do then it's just in my usual self deprecating writing style.
I was pretty upset about the things I heard and if that's really put people off then I just can't believe it, I've no idea how that could have happened.
I've had the usual "oh you guys all live together and share a bankroll" nonsense too. That's another reason why people don't want to play apparently. I mean we go after each other so hard it's a joke, it's literally the opposite of playing together. Trust me, a lot of groups of friends who play in the same games soft play each other - we are literally the opposite. And there's no giving money back at the end of the night lol. And anyone that plays with us knows that we really want to whack each other, and you can see on our faces that it hurts every time we even fold to a 3bet let alone get stacked by each other!
Had all the same issues as you in lol live poker. Always from people who were extremely two faced too. It sucks and its why I stopped blogging. Your diary has 1000x the interest mine did however so you should at least try and keep us up to date. I certainly enjoy it. Plus I need a diary to ask random questions in.

Don't pay too much attention to isolated comments.
I haven't played too much live lately, so I'm guessing a little bit, but I would suggest diaries etc... would be somewhere between insignificant and negligible, as a reason that the games are quiet.
Some of the biggest reasons would be, summer / hot weather, availability of cash / economy, tougher games, games less fun to play in. If anything, blogs publicising games (as long as its in a positive way) are more likely to bring people in, rather than scare them away.

I'd be very surprised if your diary has had much of an impact of whether players go to DTD or not. If anything, I'd expect any possible negative drop off to be outweighed by rec's who wouldn't have played reading the diary, taking an interest, and going along to play. I'd put myself in this group as I'd never have gone to play a DTD Deepstack if I hadn't took an interest in Blonde, in which your diary is very prominent.
There's always going to be people who find a negative slant from public diaries, I'd suggest not to take this too seriously and go off the fact that if people weren't interested/gaining from the diary they wouldn't post.

I havent played at DTD for a long time but I doubt very much it is anything to do with your diary. There might be the odd isolated case of something rubbing someone up the wrong way but it seems to me more likely that it is a very natural case of the sharks eating the fish. From what I can see there are maybe 8-10 good pro level players in Nottingham. Lets assume they all need to win 40k a year that is 400k that needs to be taken out of the poker economy every year. It is a hell of a lot of money and probably needs 50-100 players to support it and I just doubt that players at that level exist in Nottingham. DTD have done an amazing job of expanding the market in Nottingham to the point where it is bigger than any other provincial city in the UK but, at the end of the day, it is still a provincial city and people that are knocking in 10k a year are always going to drift away from the game and if they aren't replaced the games were always going to die on some level. If you want to continue to play live for living I think you will almost certainly have to get used to travelling if you don't want to move.

I will preface this by stating, quite clearly, that I <3 DTD. On maths alone however, their challenge is great:
10 people playing for a living of £40k/annum @ c£30hr = c13,000hrs of poker, allow for this to be 2/5ed to allow for 4 regs/table = 5200 table hours.
5200hrs of poker @ c£100/hr (generous, I think?) rake = £520k
Net removal from liquidity pool = £920k, or £18k/week, which when the club is open 5 days a week is £3.6k/day.
That's a lot of beans to be finding in a location where, save for the feature events, passing/fresh liquidity is far from infinite.

10 guys making 40k plus a year just in dtd alone in cash games seems like way way too much.

I personally think that this or any other diary does not put people off playing. If anything the opposite. Saying that the following comment is a bit strange, like you are trying to influence the other regs to play the same and the comment 'our table'. However none of this puts me off at all. And you should be free to make these comments as its an open forum. I disagree that you should change anything about the way you write on here
" really trying to encourage other regs to do the same. We're all a very friendly bunch and will have a laugh with anyone that sits at our table"

Probably fair, and people rightly won't want to discuss their own numbers, but I think the overall estimate is probably reasonable even if the number of players assumed etc. is a little oversimplified.

The actual figures might not be right but you have to remember a lot of pros and very competent amateurs go there a lot outside of the regs. Maybe they don't win 40k a year but they don't have to because DTD have to take their cut too like Ed points out. When I lived in the West Midlands there were probably a group of 50-60 regular cash players. It is hard to believe that Nottingham in the long run has more than that area yet there are at least 15 winning regulars from DTD that post on blonde not to mention all of the other guys that spend a weekend there every few weeks for a deepstack or whatever. Just seems a very tough poker enviroment to me to sustain a living.

I have had great enjoyment from this diary and hope that it doesn't revert to a weekly journal. Don't think the diary has had any impact on the cash games.Thats all to do with the size of the player pool and the lack of traffic to feed so many mouths.

OK little poker update.
Came back from Edinburgh and stayed in Nottingham one night then headed to Southend with Deadman and PJ for the GPS.
They busted earlyish but I was doing alright. I love those tournaments, the atmosphere, the buyin level, prizepool. Everything is perfect. I was even playing with an sea view! I was really in the zone yesterday, feeling really good, running well and cruised to 90k. With 15 minutes to go I had a pretty disastrous few minutes.
I lost two thirds of my stack in a huge cooler to bag up 28k, and lost the following two hands at open face chinese vs Fred. (I am top left and bottom right. The cards with the yellow border are the last cards.)

So I'm on for a double fantasy land with one card to go. He's got a bowl on the bottom left and is already in fantasy land on the top right with an absolute monster - straight flush and quads and eights. Never seen such a sick hand.
Then not only do I misset BOTH hands, but he gets in on the bottom left too! So he's in double fantasy land and scoop 132 points! Bear in mind most hands are 10-30 points swings and the biggest one I've ever seen is probably about 60 points. This was more than DOUBLE that.
Then the next hand he stayed in BOTH fantasy lands and scooped 95 points with this monster:
He won 60 points the next hand as well. So that was 300 points in 3 hands. Pretty sickening.
Deadman and PJ both busted 2nd bullet today too and drove home so I'm stuck here on my own relying on some kind soul (Ed G lined up) for a lift to London when I bust tomorrow. And then get a train back to notts. Bit of a ballache.
I played online tonight cos I'm trying to satellite into EPT Barca. Played one on wednesday and came 4th with 2 seats
and bricked tonight. Did come 3rd in a 100fo for a day saver, got battered 3handed by this guy on my right who hit every flop every hand. Except this one
Running deep in so many stars majors lately, it's really making me desperate for a big score. I think ones really close around the corner! One score >25k in almost 3 years of professional poker doesn't seem like much. So hungry for a big one but it could easily be many months or years away I know that. I do love it though that almost every week there's a sweat, a chance for it to happen. Maybe I'll even spinup tomorrow and win that....
