There's always a way to get a mortgage although it's more difficult than it used to be you just have know the right people.

Hi Alex,

Be very careful with this. Agree there are "arrangers" that you can go to but the bottom line is that the Mortgage will still come from a main bank. The rules and regulations for ALL banks/mortgage lenders are the same.

These "right people" are usually people who know how to dress up the application and in effect produce false information in order to get their clients the mortgage they require.

We had a guy in Edinburgh a couple of years back who ran his own finance company which included getting high risk cases through the mortgage/loan application process, incredibly a lot of his clients had been directed his way by Citizens Advice.

He was found to be deliberately supplying false info for the clients, jailed and struck off a year or so ago and majority of his clients are now in schtuck with the actual mortgage/loan providers.

BTW I work for a large banking group and see/hear a lot of this.

Finally, your laptop will not overheat by shutting the lid. LOL

Oh perhaps it wont then, I know nothing about the subject really. It's just that I looked into it before and was told that it would.

Usually every laptop sleeps if you close the lid.

If you changed this setting and laptop continues to run with closed lid
and you are on battery
and you set (allowed) the computations to run on battery
no wonder in the morning you see the laptop "off" (battery 0%)

If you are NOT on battery and the computations run with closed lid (bad cooling)
the laptop overheats and switches itself OFF to prevent damage to the CPU.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most laptops rely on losing some of their heat through the keyboard so shutting the lid seems like a bad thing to me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: using external monitor with laptop lid closed
Navigate to the following: System = > Preferences => Power Management => On AC Power and/or On Battery Power => When laptop lid is closed => blank screen.

PS: Some laptops will overheat if the lid is closed during use (e.g. many Apple laptops), so be careful...

One thing I can't reccomend strongly enough is to invest in a base/stand for your laptop similar to http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-CoolSpot-Cushion-Laptop-Cooling/dp/B004CLYIZ6 and being religous about using it...

Its a must if your likely to use your laptop in bed at any point as when resting the laptop on the duvet it will sink in and give itself air circulation issues essential for cooling. You also can have similar issues with your laptop just on your lap as well. Using one of those religously will extend the life of your laptop fairly significantly and well worth the relatively small outlay...

Geo is spot on.  The lenders and regulator have turned a blind eye to this for years but that is changing.

Self certification is as good as dead in the water and firms are now being disciplined/closed for what is basically mortgage fraud.

The guarantor suggestion is a good option but I prefer the winning an EPT route  Wink

btw - it's generally an urban myth that you need batteries to run down otherwise you affect performance. That was the case about 10 or 15 years ago, but no longer.

Great day online, winning about 1.4k over 1800 hands. On a pretty big heater atm, running like 15 buyins above ev this year! #whenwillitend

Ran pretty terrible at DTD in every aspect, except one hand, in which I got really lucky. It's a usual routine, knock it in for a few hours, then, well I usually flop-a-set-vs-a-fish-in-a-3bet-pot but tonight, I did the almost as satisfying gutshot-turnage. I'd c/r bluffed the flop vs stato with on then this fish from Leicester min 3b it. It was like £39 more to call, and I was oop and the guy either had J9 or 33 at this point, so we're pretty dead. But he had like 500 behind and never folds, so the implied odds of turning a ten or backdooring a flush are pretty huge.  Binked it on the turn, I checked he bet £150 I shoved. He looked like he was close to laying it down, so a bit of speech play and showing him the ensured he called the rest off Cheesy Pretty certain that the speech play changed his mind anyway...

So that was pretty fun. But losing every other pot, and running awful in props wasn't - reckon I lost like 500 just in props. Despite that, walked away winning about 400 for the session which is alright.

Had nice meal and drinks for Mitch's bday last night. Mitch almost lost the meal flip which would've been pretty funny - he was heads up with Plintanon but poor Pete had to pay. We ate at Zizzi's nomm nomm. Had to go to Derby for it sigh, since it's Mitch's hometown, but was a good night nonetheless. Just in case you don't read Seans diary, I'll just mention that he turned up at the correct restaurant but in the wrong city which was pretty funny, so he missed out. However, it's HIS birthday meal tomorrow, in Zizzi's, NOTTINGHAM this time. This is ahead of a VERY promising looking 2/5 game which starts at 9pm tomorrow. Will be a really big game and could make or break the month for me. Excited.

Morning Alex.

Do NOT "fiddle" the mortgage (via your Parents). It is a little problem that will become a bigger problem over time. In 5, 10, 20 years when you want to "move up", you'll suddenly find you have no mortgage history. It's a short cut that is full of downside.

Don't do it, just don't.

PS - If you do, I'd rather enjoy the thought that you'd be deemed, "subprime", or even better, a "toxic asset".......

Tikay,

I think there is some misunderstanding here. There are new parent/guarantor options developing in the market but a traditional guarantor mortgage would not be "fiddling" or leave Alex without a credit history - quite the opposite.

The usual guarantor route would see the property and mortgage wholly in Alex's name and he would pay the monthly payments. The guarantor only step in as security for the lender if Alex couldn't make the payments. It's just additional security for the lender.

Ahh, my bad Rick, sorry. It's a very long time since I took my mortgage out! (Now paid off, I'm pleased to say).

I'm a bit old-fashioned with that sort of stuff, though I hide it well.

I find myself wanting to Mother Alex, too, he's so sweet, & cherubic. For some reason, much as I like & respect him, I don't get the same feeling towards Mitch.
