Neil Channing itt oioi #whatalife

Interview with Channing for PokerPlayer magazine. 'I was reading the prose from a poshboy thread on blonde and I saw he said "oi oi neil channing in this thread". That's fucking weird. He probably won more than me from poker last year. I'm just another poker player. He's a cash grinder and so am I.'

Also apparently he read every single page of this thread. Took him hours.

Not going in the article, but thought you would like to know Smiley

Class

Ridic brags. Would love Neil to confirm

I'm sure he could, but I have the audio file so you could take my word for it. I know journalists don't have the best reputations anymore, but that would be a weird lie to make up.

It was just a general question on how he copes with being a poker celeb and he came out with that. His wider point was he found the whole idea of being a poker celeb pretty odd.

It certainly wasn't meant as a diss to Alex. Quite the opposite.

Sorry Alun, you took my statement the wrong way. I wasnt doubting you at all mate, just thought it would be funny if Alex had a "quote" to add to his growing repertoire of subtle brags.

Was no harm meant towards you buddy

Hmm that's pretty funny actually. I had a email interchange with Neil in October 2010 after dealing to him at the WSOPE. I wrote to him whilst I was restarting uni, and grinding the 50/1 by night, torn between carrying on Uni and doing the poker thing. I'll dig up the cliffs from the conversation when I have time. I wonder whether he's made the connection between this and that exchange.

SALZBURG UPDATE

Yesterday - Ian picked James and I up in his BMW 7 series, soooo sick - ridic leg room in the back and just an awesome piece of kit. He had a driver to drive us (disappointingly not in a suit, but he did have a tie on)...the whole thing was just so ballin.

Flight - ryan air tilt me so hard, won't ever fly with them if I can avoid it, but sadly had no choice this time. Forgot my boarding pass print outs (fishhh) - the bastards charge me £60 for a reprint. On tilt already.

Had a nap in the afternoon, welcome party in the evening for the qualifers - somehow we managed to get an invite and we spent the evening enjoying the free bar and having banter with Ian (dark horse life and soul of the trip!) and Stato and Keys. Main event 1pm the next day so didn't stay late - a professional early night.

Day 1 - Keys knows I only came on this trip because I heard we were in a ski resort. So he thinks I'm just gonna punt the main and try and bust so I can ski all week. I had a dream that I got aces in the first hand and got my 20k in vs kings and lost and went over to Keys to tell him and he didn't believe me and was furious saying I just spewed it off cos I wanted to go skiing.

First hand of the main I look down at Aces, I open to 150, fearing the worst...Everyone folds and I exhale. 20,150 is my chip count...I never reached this lofty peak again. In the 8th hour of play I manged to get up to 19,700 but even this was too high altitude for me to remain - bagged up 17,300 for tomorrow - half the field remain (only Ian from our group remains - on 71k like a g6) returning at 400/800. Time to spin up.

Really hard grind today was. No hands all day really, tough table, nobody giving it away, was supposed to be a soft field but my table really wasn't at all. Hovered between 10 and 20k all day, never put more than 4k into any pot. Tiring, frustrating and not exactly enjoyable. #lovethe(cash)game

Pleased to still be in though, and I kept my disicpline really well all day, making lots of good folds when I could've easily 'fk it shoved' in a few spots.

Let's run good tomorrow.

Weather here is -14 but in the casino and hotel is lovely and warm so having no problems with the cold. The real test will be on the slops in a couple of days time!
