I don’t usually venture into the diaries section but just clicked this open and stumbled on a subject I relate to. I would like to lend my support to Alex here because I know what it feels like to be subject of negative bias from a fellow member for having a certain style that can oft be misinterpreted.
Another member is currently doing the same thing to me and his last 3 posts in my direction were….
“Mantis you mug”
“Mantis causes offence and disruption wherever he posts and I bet you can't find a single person who disagrees”
“Mantis, those quotes in your sig are sooo sad!”
Think Alex should just dust any negative comments off because you can’t please all of the people all of the time and he's got a lot to be proud of.
Good post Mantis, the kid is no more than a hypocritical bully! Excellent post!
Not only do you have a proven track record in business, but i find you articulate and intelligent, and as proven here, you always present your case well. IMO you are a blonde legend, and fellow forum member HP informs me you are very easy on the eye.
Cheers mr nice guy! <3 Mantis.

Mantis that was also pretty funny, congrats. if your sigs are meant as a joke, light hearted, tongue-in-cheek etc then fine, I misread their intentions.
Peace.

Yah, but before we start shining each other's bell understand that whilst using those comments as a sig is hilarious the content of them is stunningly accurate.

Sorry man must have missed. You are one of my fav posters so no offence intended. Think you said you liked me which isn't a precious enough gift to add to my growing collection.

Piss off man! I had a proper compliment for him and he blanked mine too ffs.
Oi Mantis! When I said you were a keeper in the Sky thread, I wasn't referring to the position on a footy pitch. Sigh.

Fantastic Mantis love going on here. Should be a separate thread IMO and then placed in the BoB section.

So..........Day TWO
To be honest, all a bit of a blurrr. Can't remember too many specific hands.
First one) I remember 4bet folding to Neil Giblin the bastard! #theoldguysalwaysgotit
2) I remember a hand where a young lad opened the button and I 3b the small blind with A2hh, KNOWING he was gonna 4b so I could 5b jam. I don't remember ever having such a feeling before. If I 3b someone light it's because I think they'll fold a lot (amongst other things obv), never because I think they'll 4b so I can 5b! It worked out perfect, he gave me a sweat though and didn't snap fold to my shove, but he did fold and that felt GREAT!
3) bit annoyed at myself for not finding a hero call vs Evil Pie. The hand played out like this - I raise the button with T8o, Matt peels BB. A84 two diamonds, check check. Matt leads
turn I call and he bets
river. At the time I wasn't sure on his river value betting tendancies on boards like these, so I made a fairly standard fold. That night, just as I was about to fall asleep, my brain was still buzzing, I remembered some pha post Matt made about value betting thinly and it suddenly struck me that I should've probably called. I said out loud "FUCK" and Hannah was like "what?" and I was like "errrrr I just realsied I made a bad river fold vs Matt with 3rd pair on a 4flushing board huni". Pretty sure she'd fallen back to sleep by the end of the sentence though! He said he had JT of black. Nice bluff Matt
4) Last hand of the day, I think I made a really decent river bluff vs Jack Allen and I only mention it because I remember it was by far the longest I've ever been made to sweat on a river decision. And it was a big pot because I remember if he called I would've finished the day on 300k which was about 2/3 average, but if he folded I would've had 1.3x average. I was stone cold still for about 7 or 8 minutes and could feel my throat closing up and my eyes were literally watering by the end. Was a high adrenaline moment
Overall the day was a massive grind, and I ran pretty bad in it cards wise. Held in a couple of allin showdowns for 10bb pots and ran decent with my table draw on the bubble. They just let me abuse it basically it was really profitable. Finished on a healthy 500k though, 60k short of what I finished day 2 on last monte carlo though - had some catching up to do!

DAY THREE PART ONE
So I'm 8/16 going into the final day. Remember getting off to a bad start, don't remember the hands, just lost some of my stack. One I do remember was vs Paul Skipper, who eventually came 2nd. Gonna post it on PHA I think. Basically there was a river spot where his line didn't make a lot of sense, but I didn't really know much about him, could've been wrong and to find out, I would've had to risk a huge amount of a very playable stack with a river bluff raise. I basically pussied out and just folded, but again, learned that he was bluffing and I could've won the pot.
Next hand I remember is on the unofficial final table. I haven't made any progress at all and am one of the shorties on the final with 20bbs. I was really card dead for the first few orbits and it was my first time playing this weekend with Jake. So in my eyes, I thought he'd perceive me as being fairly tight, as he only has this short time frame (and about an hour of 5/10 cash in which I was also being a nit) to base his read on. So when he opened in middle position and rastafish flatted, I had the James Bond Casino Royale hand
in the small blind and 20bigs, it seemed like a profitable shove and just felt it would get through loads. Jake was opening often as a big stack and rastafish's money was certainly just dead in the middle, with the blinds and ante's I increase my stack by about 35% if it gets through. Plus 75s is about 30% vs 99+ and AQ+ so the shove only needs to get through over 50% of the time for it to be profitable. With my image and table dynamic I felt this was more than likely.
Anyway, you know the ending, Jake had TT and I rivered a flush to earn a huge double up. That was one of the biggest and most important suckouts I've ever put on anybody before. I was now one of the chip leaders. Very lucky indeed.
My stack preservation tekkers was extremely poor however. A shortwhile later, I was on the button and raise KQo. The big blind, who had about 18 bigs, 3b to about 9 bigs. Hmm bit weird, but I'd played quite a bit this weekend with him and was pretty happy to see this and was gonna go with my KQ. I shoved, obv expecting a snap call but to my surprise he tanked for ages. Was loving it- great result if I take it down without showdown, and if called, he's clearly got abs filth so I should be a decent favourite. He eventually called with 93o lol and binked a river 9 to scoop.
A few hands later and I raise TT and Cody shoves and I can't wait for the blinds to fold because I was snapping and super happy about it (also excited about the prospect of knocking about another bracelet winner
) but he had QQ and held. Suddenly I was even shorter than I was before the 75 hand
Morale low, I go to the 8handed feature table with 8 bigs to try and spin it up...

DAY THREE PART TWO
First hand of the final table. I'm in the big blind with 8 bigs (240k). Folds round to Skipper in the small who 3xs it. I squeeze out AJ and am loving it and shove. He tanks and tanks. Again, loving it. The dead money was enough to get me to about 400k and I'm obv in great shape if he does call. To everyones suprise he folded and Rastafish said he "would've called me with 23 there". This is where the all the aggression and bad feeling starting. Skipper quite rightly felt that Rastafish had made him look and feel stupid with that comment and this really wound up Skipper. There was some nasty exchanges and they both had to step away from the table during the final and some points. Sinclair the bouncer got involved and there wasn't a very nice atmosphere for bits of it.
It was a strange table. The mood went from serious, to chatty, to lively, to hilarious, to charged, to aggressive, to unpleasant, to awkward and to calm 3 or 4 times over the course of it.
I won a hugely important flip vs Dorey with AK vs TT to double up (exactly the same huge flip I won 3handed vs Stuart Fox last time
).
Was chip leader 6 handed and decently placed 4 handed, with 2m to Codys 1m, and in position to Skipper who had all the chips. If I win the next hand, I'm 80% to win the title.
Cody shoves 1m @ 40k/80k and I snap in the bb with AQ. Unfortunately he's not crushed and has 99 which hold
So Cody and I swap places. A shortwhile later we swap back bvb with 66 vs A4 (was a big hold). I raise fold to Cody 3 times and he wins some pots of the other two and we're both on about 1.5m.
Then comes the blowup. I'd seen Skipper limp very recently with 74ss. I'd also seen Rastafish limp a few times with raggy Aces and hands he was defo folding to a large shove. He limped and I was in the bb with 18 bigs and was gonna shove really wide. I just thought he'd fold so often as he'd been raising his big hands up to now. The hand I looked down on was unfortunately the mighty J2o and although it's terrible it's got a picture card in and has two possible flush draws, two pair draws, TWO straight draws, can make full houses and three of a kind. In fact, all the hand rankings are possible with this badboy. I'm going with it. CALL I heard as soon as the words "all in" left my mouth. My heart sank, and I felt so stupid when I had to turn it over. The rail behind me where like, what have you got we can't see. I turned round and had to break out a smile and say loud and proud "Jack and Two. We need some Jacks and Twos".
Sadly we'd gotten lucky enough that day and I was basically dead on the flop. Absolutely gutted. Usually you go out a tournament thinking I played fine just didn't work out that time. I feel with this, that I played great for 3 days, and ran amazing maybe not on day 2, but certainly on 1 and 3 and didn't need to go out like that. It was a horrible shove and mistake that cost me and my backers thousands of £s in equity. Really horrible feeling. I felt it's such a waste to play so well all that time AND run like god to go out like that.
Never mind, it's not that terrible he probably is folding at least 70% of the time and when I was called by AQ, I was still 31% to win. And if I do win that hand, I'm probably 90% gonna win the whole thing.
Anyway, a few days on and I can think about things differently. I came 4/288 in a 1k comp, the same 1k comp I won just 5 months ago. That is incredibly lucky. I was rewarded with 22k for my performance. That is a lot of money. I have paid off all my makeup, given my backers a big wad of cash, and kept about 7k for myself. That means that December has turned from a month of playing 10 hours of live cash all month (yes only TEN) and only winning 1500 to a +8500 month which makes it my 2nd best ever month. It wipes out Novembers losses and I'm now winning more than £50k for the calendar year. Great result.
