And you are right Alex. My sample sizes are always small in any observation ( and blinkered )

I've just checked your hendon mob herbie, what's going on?! Not a score since March 2011, nothing 5figures since November 2010?

Surely you can't back track and blame it on variance? After all you preached a year ago when you first started posting!

OMG!

You just made herbie win the £1m this weekend! - Never gonna hear the last of it!
Lol I am afraid not much of the £200k can go back into the poker community. Wife £100k (50% managers fee), Frankie £10k (5% swop for Chinese good luck and I have always swooped a %age with a chinaman for about 5 years. But this is how bad I am running. Frankie has reduced the swop recently due to my bad run obv  and had grimmed me for my £15 from his min cash this weekend). £5k for the rsq winner tonight (2.5% first prize). £5k (2.5% for Cos cleaners in Thailand. He put up a staking thread to play some stuff for them and I said "the last thing those cleaners want is another bowl of rice" which at the time I thought was funny but he blames me for boking him as he never won a bean let alone any rice. So they get a sweat with me and I can't to any worse than Papertits . I also owe Trigg £25 that he will have forgot about but I never do and Leefish £100 but other than that I owe no one else so with the £80k left over I'll see if Flushy wants to sell any shares in this place seeing as I almost live here Smiley

Good luck me this week but I would honestly swop a bink with Sean Belton because I love that lad and winning the Ukipt would mean more to him than me

Playing in tough line ups is good for your game (as long as you can afford to take the potential losses).  I'm pretty sure players like Mitch and Alex don't see playing 1/2 at dtd as the zenith of their careers.  If you want to progress you have to play better opponents.  Personally I played quite a few players who were better than me who won quite a lot off me but when I look back I realise it was well worth it.  If you can learn to defend yourself against the lions in the game you'll have no problem smashing the kittens in the face.

Also you have to start the game somehow - what a lot of players don't seem to grasp (ESP online) is that fish don't  start games - you need the games running and then the fish will come.

yes but thats easy for you to say because when anyone asks who is the best cash player your name is usually on the top of my list. i was stood with channing at the gukpt when Julian told him you are a bit special too and that opinion is held by more than just us two obv. This is a group of great mates who i just think " hang on a second this could end in tears" but i assume as the apex predator you want em all in the game.

Edit: Keys is at the top of the nicest guy list. you need a bit of ying with your yang...lol ying comes out as Yong on the i phone. good job i noticed, because if i had posted Yong and good players in the same thread i would have been flamed to death (despite me knowing just how great a player Rob is).  Smiley Smiley

this x100

i've always played virtually anyone if i could afford it and will continue to do it, not because it's ego but because if someone's better than me I wanna find out why.

Well ive often been told im "a bit special" but up until now nobody has noticed I'm an apex predator (I'm glad somebody else has finally recognised this).  It could be part of a master plan to make Alex et al all play me live so not only can I win monies off them but also keep them poor enough so that they need backing however the reality is that in a live 1/2 game I'm prob the value.  If I wanted to maximise my hourly rate I'd just stay at home and play online - I basically play live for the social side and occasionally do actually learn stuff/pick up ideas.

I think your main motivation should be to improve not to maximise your immediate hourly.
Successful singers/actors are usually the ones who just really wanted to sing/act and be as good as possible - fame/money is a by product of this.  The ones who want to be famous so they learn to sing/act are usually not as good at what they do.  The same is true of poker I bet the richest poker players are the ones who loved the game and wanted to get better and better and happened to become rich as a by product - rather than the ones who go out there just trying to maximise their immediate hourly by any means possible.

Finally the great thing about poker is it's a meritocracy - if you're not good enough over a period time you'll lose and you'll have nobody to blame but yourself so I can't see how it would affect a friendship group- it's not like in a normal job where you can blame bad career progression on office politics/colleagues/bosses etc

We have a sweat at least. Loved being on the same table as his the boss Keith J. Think he had the  2nd best hand in all 5 pots we played so it was defiantly a case of better to be lucky than good Smiley

Confirmed  - joined the herbinators table as chip leader - he then repeatedly told me how great I was while gently relieving me of my chips.

Wow just turned on the party poker big game, seen Phil Laak tanking an allin from Andy mosely with A6o. Somehow he's got himself sort of priced in and flicks in the call - £31k!

Mosely has AK and shows, Laak doesnt show. Board runs out T226J and Laak MUCKS! Doesn't realise he has the best hand and mucks the winner!

Pretty comedy - he hasn't been told yet he had the best hand.

Great trip in York with Hannah. Went to the railway museum as recommended, was 'cool'. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Went to see the minster and shopped and just wandered round the city a fair bit - it's really nice there. Can defo see myself living there 10/20years down the line. Had some nice meals and just a lovely time with Hannah who I hadn't seen for a couple of weeks while she's been at home for easter.

Got back to Notts this afternoon- absolutely buzzing for UKIPT weekend. Played some cash and AGAIN played awful and AGAIN spewed off. I just don't get what's going on at the moment, I've never been through a phase like this before. I just can't seem to help myself at the moment.

Gonna stop playing cash until Marbella now, which is only 6 days away, but still it'll do some good.

My tournament game is really good however, I'm playing solid online and not making mistakes/focussing really well in recent live comps. Feeling good about the UKIPT tomorrow. Weird how the two just don't go together at all, I can be playing really good in tournaments but really bad in cash. Logically it doesn't really make sense.

My business is going nicely, I've sorted the domain now, so I HAVE a website to work with. At the moment it's just a blank page though! I have an idea which I think is great. I have a business plan, and a strategy about how to implement it. Next step is getting a quote from the website guys about how much it's gonna cost to build, probs gonna do my nuts on it, but really think if it takes off, i'll turn a profit in 12 months+. Just gonna concentrate on this now, not poker so much over the next few weeks. Dunno whether to reveal yet what it is, might just let you guys sweat it out for a while!
