Wow. Managed to not go broke here which might be bad but I had a really nasty feeling he had A8, and I said before he bet I'd "just call" if he bet like 500k. Then he bet 400 which was right on the line, went with my gut and didn't shove. Who folds to these flop c/raises btw? So annoying when they rep so thin and have air so often.

which left me enough chips (20bbs) to 3b shove the next hand, mp vs utg+1 with 77. Einstein calls it off with KJ and obv gets there. So brutal, so gutted.

Is there a reason you bet this flop when checked to? What are you getting value from that will check this flop? Also what hands are you making fold that beat you? When he C/R flop what do you think his range his on such a dry board?

Do you know anything about the fact that quite a few guys who help keep this site running have been getting a lot of abuse and hate mail on things like Facebook lately? I just tell them congratulations on getting abuse because it generally means you have made it in this world or attained a modicum of success.

I have received no such hate mail for some reason Sad

I know it's annoying when you get c/raised but I find people rarely bluff raise A high flops. Think flop is a standard bet/fold. Obv gross when the turn is a 9 :/

Is there a reason you bet this flop when checked to? What are you getting value from that will check this flop? Also what hands are you making fold that beat you? When he C/R flop what do you think his range his on such a dry board?

I bet the flop for several reasons

1) For balance - because I'd bet with most of my bluffs, and all my strong hands, so since I've opened the cutoff (thus have a wide range pre), if I only bet bluffs and strong hands then my range is massively weighted towards bluffs making me very unbalanced and easy to play against. Thus I include medium strength hands such as weak Ax and medium pairs, 8x as well.

2) If I check I cap my range and almost turn my hand faceup as weak Ax at best. It makes the turn and river pretty hard to play well, since I'll be guessing if he bets the turn and he can put me in a coffin with a huge river barrel - basically betting makes the hand much easier to play.

3) For value, since he's peeled the bb his range is pretty wide, and includes lots of worse hands that might call a bet. 8x isn't folding and he might call one with 22-77, 5x, 67, some gutshots etc. He might float and therefore I can check back the turn and call the river on a decent amount of runouts and expect to be good a lot.

4) For protection vs TJ, KQ type hands that can outdraw me on the turn, or even if they don't, if the turn is a T-K and he bets, I probably have to give up and can be easily bluffed off the best hand. Taking down the pot is an underated outcome imo. I'd be much more likely to check this flop with KK or Ax since it's so much harder to be outdrawn.

And when he c/raises I could/should fold maybe, just he's repping only a few value hands (A8 and A5, and 55 and 88) some of which he 3bets pre, and some of which he folds pre (A8o and A5o sometimes) so I thought he could be just pure airballing hoping I have nothing and give up too, or is clicking buttons with 8x or 5x so I thought there was a decent chance I was still winning.

Plus I could turn a 9 and win a big pot Cheesy

Ive just realised that you were the pre-flop aggressor, my questions were more centered around the Villian being the pre flop aggressor
