Yeh I was basically planning to follow guys like camel and red armi who have made a living out of it for years, and follow any tips they gave. Can't really be a terrible idea can it?

Hi Cos. are you back on blonde now? I hope so.

Following my tips on T4T has been the quickest way to the poor house!!!!!  Luckily for those that do I tip rarely these days.  That said there are some people on there I would think you can follow blindly and long term make a profit.  The key is to be able to get the same prices in most cases which tends not to be easy as they are time sensitive and to do that you would have to have accounts with 15-20 bookmakers.  you won't be able to just get up at 1pm stroll down to Ladbrokes and place the bet it will involve a bit of work.

Would be interested in reading the camels view on whether Alex should take up betting or not.

He might just, as I have sent him a PM asking if he feels able to comment.

In less good news, I will try & portray some facts for Alex later today, if time permits, to help him make his mind up. I certainly won't be telling what he should or should not do though.

Thanks Tikay.

Let's not think of this as some big career decision for me though! Everyone seems to have gone a bit bananas! It's just a small side project for a bit of fun, risking really small amounts of money and small amounts of time also, should I chose to go ahead with it.

In other news, I've had a pretty horrific time since I've been back - played the incred100 yesterday, which got a huge £46k prizepool and managed to near enough bubble. Can live with that of course, but I was violently throwing up all night which and shivering in bed with 3 layers of clothes on. Either due to a Ginsters BLT at 4pm yesterday, or due to some Latvian dumplings which Victoria made me try.

Either way, I seem to be better now. I literally never get ill though. The last time I was ill was in Vietnam in 2009. I missed less than 5 days of school lifetime due to illness also, just seem to run good healthwise, despite a pretty unhealthy diet.

Should be fine to play sundays...

I shuddered when I saw your original post on the matter. As its just for fun why not set an amount aside and go with your own tips and see how you compare to the experts? It would be much more fun backing your own selections and you could look into markets that you have knowledge in. There are quite a few novelty bets available, with Paddy Power inparticular. So much more fun backing a rugby team because you like their pink kit etc. Anyway we all know the real experts only post in Milligans nits thread.

Wow what a ridiculous over-reaction from everyone!!

Alex isn't suggesting for a second he wants to quit poker and take up pro-punting, he just said he fancies learning a bit about sports punting and using the T4T thread, blonde's resources and his gambling contacts try have a lil go at punting properly and not just randomly betting on stuff he "likes the look off" which is what most of us do! (myself very much included!)

It's an abso fine idea, keep it realtively low stakes (dont go off your head basically) and try make good bets, watch and read the T4T thread where v clever guys also share the process they came by the tips and then just see if you can't pick it up - chances are the way this idea will go is he'll give it a spin for 3 or 4 weeks, dust off a bag and a half and realise it's fucking joke tough and give it up, or maybe he'll get the taste for it, enjoy it as its different and might even make a couple of £'s - either way it'll be a laugh prolly.

Whats the big deal people he's not off to give herowin a spin is he.

OTOH, following the shrewd Chompy blind would be a pleasing enactment of an ancient metaphor. Gonna have to flip flop - I say gogogogo

Blackjack>staking iyo Matt?

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't intend '>' to mean 'is better than', I meant 'has lead to'.

Poker is a +ev occupation for you from what I understand. I assume that before you took up poker you weren't in to blackjack, meal flips, staking etc....

It's poker and the people who you've got to know through poker that have lead you this way. There's nothing wrong with this btw, punting is incredible fun.

From a sensible point of view I believe you should stick to playing poker and improving at it rather than looking for other ventures.

From a fun point of view (and I'm afraid the fun way is the one I'd choose) happy punting Cheesy
