I think people just don't listen/know albums anymore. People download their favourite songs or set up playlists on spotify so actual albums are becoming less widely known

Not sure we can use Alex as representative of his generation. He has a wide range of knowledge which could be described as 'specialist' and some massive gaps of what could be regarded as ' generalist'. He has covered this himself in previous posts. Life's rich tapestry. Still weird though.

Alex is representative of a very small slice of a very narrow group of his generation. It has a population of 1.

What is the most well-known band or artist Alex hasn't heard of?
I'll put U2 as a level for the moment.
This has real quiz potential. Play along at home. Alex, yes or no to these:
Rolling Stones
Beatles
Kinks
Dean Martin
James Brown
Primal Scream
Blur
Boyzone
Bing Crosby
The Eagles
Def Leppard
NWA
The Doors
Cream
David Bowie
John Coltrane
Genesis
S Club 7
Fatboy Slim
Prince

not my words
The Joshua Tree received critical acclaim, topped the charts in over 20 countries, and sold in record-breaking numbers. According to Rolling Stone, the album increased the band's stature "from heroes to superstars". It produced the hit singles "With or Without You", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", and "Where the Streets Have No Name". The album won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1988. The group supported the record with the Joshua Tree Tour throughout 1987. Frequently featured on critics' lists of rock's greatest records, The Joshua Tree is one of the world's best-selling albums, with over 25 million copies sold
