Wake up at around 10.45am to get down to brekkie which was served until 11 (very poker friendly) although not too impressive. Egg was too greasy and beans tasted like they’d been hard boiled. However being in Ireland and seeing it cost 12 Euro for a burger I filled up as best I could (it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it)

We went back to the room to chill. Was a good laugh with the boys. Pranks and jokes aplenty. Usually when in room I’m comfortable stripping down to my birthday suit and chilling under the covers (sorry if this has put you off your dinners guys). With my physique there’s no need to be shy.

I should at this point explain we’re on the ground floor overlooking a green where smokers nip out for a sly fag. Across from this small green is reception and a seating area. I jump out of bed to nip to the loo. On my return I greet the green and reception with nothing but a smile. Kev shouts “HELLO LOOK AT ME” for good measure. He’s opened the curtains and nets up fully.  I spot a few dealers and players looking up as I dive to get under the covers. We’re all in bits laughing. Bastard.

Get up and make our way down at quarter to. A quick call to the Mrs to wish me and her luck. She’s playing the day 2 of the grand prix and we dream of a Bedi double. Should be newsworthy I’d think.

I sit down at my starting table with the lovely Dena dealing. Run good starts here. I’ll briefly describe my table as best I can:

Seat 1: Elderly gentleman. Passive/Tight. Involved early but lost stack and tightened up

Seat 2: Seemed capable. In fair share of pots. Seemed to know what he was doing

Seat 3: As above although more TAG

Seat 4: Me (donk)

Seat 5: Again Irish player. Again seemed capable until exit hand. (rejammed 77 in 3 bet pot on J93 board against Queens)

Seat 6: Irish player again. Very tight

Seat 7: Sam Razavi. No idea who he is/what he’s won and what he’s won since

Seat 8: Another Irishman. Seemed pretty spewy

Seat 9: Net qualifier. Oh dear (more on him later)

Seat 10: Irishman. Very aggro. Bet big. Tricky to play against.

We started 7 handed so not all were there to begin with. I was in a lot of pots early but nothing too significant. I dropped to 13.5k which I had at first break. Kev was down to 7k after calling a 30 big blind re shove with Jacks. The guy had 3’s and binked one (sound familiar). Dan Ward, who if anyone knows him, usually has the world at first break but this time had 10k. He was saving his tales of rungood for the second break.

First key hand I play is shortly after the break at 75/150 and I’m still not convinced I made the right call. Irish capable opens c/off to 350 at 75/150. I have two black sixes and peel out of the small blinds. Heads up to a 834ss flop. He c bets 425. I call

Turn in an off suit 7. He bets 110 this time. I call (station). The river is an offsuit 9. The board is now 83479 and he now bets 2650. I really am unsure of what to do. I count my stack. If I call and I’m wrong I’m left with 5k. If I fold now I have around 8. I really don’t know long term whether this is a fold or not. I felt like he may check back a lot of his value hands on this board. I looked at him to try and get a read and say “this is probably a fold”. He looks really uncomfortable but my live reads are ridic tez. I throw the chips in. He taps the table and mucks. Phew! 20k. Weeeee.

I maintain my stack around the 20k mark for the level. We get a new player in seat 3. Some unknown by the name of Liv Boeree???

So Liv sits down two to my right. Cameras clicking. People looking round. You can argue about her poker (although from what I’ve seen she’s very good) but you cannot argue about her being worth whatever Stars are paying her. People are interested in Liv. Fact.

I have met Liv once before. She interviewed me after I bust the gala tour (link to hand) but this was pre all the fame. Wasn’t sure what to expect. Thought she might be quite chatty etc etc. Nope. She was all business until she’d settled in. The table was quite chatty with Sam and me on there anyway and Liv joined in. I inevitably told her she’d called me spewy on the TV coverage and that she was right. Good read. I make Liv laugh at least twice. Kevin Macphee watch out!

As I said she played really well. Back to my stack I’d lost a few and was now down to 15k after losing the following hand. I open QQ in early position. Irishman in seat 8 flats. Heads up and the flop comes A73cc. I c bet. He peels. Turn is an off suit deuce. I check, he checks. River is a 7 and I check again. He bets half pot. I really don’t think he’d be value betting an ace here from watching him so make the call. Yes he has J7dd. Owned.

Another pot occurs which really damages my stack with net qualifier. He opens to 1050 and 150/300/25. One caller and I peel A9cc in big blind (fold pre?). Flop is 842cc and we get it in. He had jacks and hold. I now have 5k. I get back up to 20k with no showdown poker. Check shoving K5ss on a K56 board next hand from the sb in an unraised pot when Liv bets the c/off.

I then win chips with A10 on a AK3J board vs net player who’d limp called pre when I try and iso him from button. He calls flop but folds QJ when I jam turn. It’s approaching dinner (10pm dinner ftw) we’re all starving when the following hand occurs.

Cut off who has just moved to the table opens to 1525 at 200/400/50. Liv 3 bets button to 3575. SB folds and I look down at AQ. Siuhfivhwuirufgwurhieqhr. I have 20k so my options here are 4 bet jam or fold. I tank for a minute. I think it’s a fold on balance. I really am not sure how light Liv is here with the size of the open. I mean she probs flats AJ/99/1010 so why I end up 4 bet jamming and then grimacing when Liv calls with KK I’ll never know. Bad play rewarded tho has I river an Ace. Liv looks displeased. Looks like the marriage is off. I go to dinner alone as Dan wa son first dinner sitting (who incidentially had 40k at second break) and Kev is out when he made a 23 big blind reshove from the big blind to a raise from 3rd position and a call from the button with 108 off suit (wp). I sit down eating my dinner minding my own business when Liv approaches me “May I join you?”

.... Here comes the bride!!! (Sorry Mrs B)
