New Laptop
«
on:

I'm looking to get a new laptop, i have no idea what i should be looking for.
Basically need good resolution screen for the obvious and it also needs to be good for playing back films etc.
I usually go Dell but Middy keeps banging on about macbooks, are they better or is it marketing guff?

What is it for though? Grinding ? or as a chilling out travelling machine?
do you have a work station at home as your base computer or will this machine have to do everything?
The prices seem alot more than pcs 'for similar specs' but a) you don't run windoze by default, b) it will last longer, c) looks good ldo, d) with virtualisation you can run any windoze stuff you need.
What you go for will depend on what you need it for.

I don't think a Mac is necessary unless your into graphic design or photography or similar shit. I checked everything out in the last few months and that was the conclusion I came to. For surfing, grinding, films etc a decent lappy is perfectly adequate and a fair bit cheaper, just think about what you will use it for and decide.............

I think this line is a bit old hat, it used to always be true ofc but now the prices are more inline + there are barely any compatibility problems what so ever if you know what you are doing, but I agree you need to know what you want it for.

I think the point I was making is its too high end for casual use and not really necessary...........

My take would be consider a Mac if you're going to spend that much anyway or if there is something you really need a Mac for.

17" MB Pro is serweeet. Had one for a long time. Screens huge.
Both FTP/Stars have native Mac OS apps but you can also run windoze for poker software/sites.
