Run it twice?
«
on:
March 04, 2011, 05:03:46 PM »
I'm writing an article on running it twice, specifically looking at the FTP PLO games. Trouble is I'm not sure what my opinion on running it twice is, is it a good innovation, is it a good idea to run it twice, does it matter that it's PLO and not NLHE? I know it's used to reduce variance but PLO is a swingy game by design. IF u run it twice everytime you're in a flip, are u just gonna end up breaking even as the majority or flop (or pre) allins are flips? Does having it available help aggro players as they can play extra aggro and if called hope to get out of it with half the pot, while winning all the pot when the aggro forced folds?
Also, a certain Internet policeman told me he got some abuse of some geezer for switching between running it twice and not. Obv the guy thought PC Papertits would be running it twice as he had last time, and he didn't. The guy thought this was not ethically right and was a bit of a stroke. Obv it's your choice, but then again if u were in a live game and the guy kept switching from running it twice to not would that annoy u?
I've never run it twice playing live and didn't think I would playing these games, but I am using it on occassion, mostly when I think I've got it in on the bad side of a flip, say just with a bear nfd and no back up, so probs like a 2 to 1 dog....not even sure if this is a good idea or not. Mostly if stuck most people inc me seem to run it once to get out of it, doesn't seem to make sense realy either.
All opinions welcome....

If you always have run it twice on, then its probably better to jam draws as you know you have double the % to chop at least.

In theory you're going to break even from flipping whether you run it twice or not

Run it twice is a decent strat. if you're BR isn't that deep, or if you are taking a shot at a higher level, or if you, and at least one other player at a table get deep stacked (all roughly the same thing really).
Otherwise, pretty much isn't going to make a lot of difference either way.

Sometimes you get caught with your pants down and there's no way you can win it twice. Now do you want 2 cracks at chopping it or one go at scooping?

yea i think its slightly unethical to keep switching. Shouldn't neccessary effect good players decisions whether to jam draws or not, depends what you believe is optimal with the information available. Weaker players may think its good for the reason they will win some of the pot alot of the time which could inturn mean its a good thing meaning people make worse decisions. I always RIT unless an opponent insists on not doing it.

when I play HU I ask the guy b4 we start if we wanna run it twice or not and we both agree to stick to it for the whole match.
I think it's a good idea in general, personally never have it on - let it riddddddddddddde

Agree. Think before u sit down for a session at a cash table on tilt it should ask u whether u are running it twice by default or not otherwise think it is unethical

Why not run it four times?
(Not missing an obvious chance to show my favourite hand of tv poker)

if you think it's a good idea to not do it then why do you ask? surely better to just say you're not doing it at the start

if you think you are way ahead/way behind (obv not very common in plo) there is no point in paying the extra rake for rit. The idea is to reduce variance so you should save it for wet flops.

True but only if the pot is always the same size, you should break even in the number of pots won but u may lose more big ones than u win...so maybe a case for running it twice when the pot is over a certain number of bb/buyins?

Yeh but u can only do that hu, not practical in a ring game. I'm still not sure I agree it's unethical, strange I would never have even thought of that til Cos mentioned it

I love this hand, it's the celebrations afterwards, every player is high fiving and hugging each other, it's like they're all winning....which in a way they are
