Shawshank Redemption is an interesting one.  I always see it rated number one in these things and think there must be better but everyone that sees it loves it.  There are films that I think are better from an artistic or storyline point of view but in terms of general popularity I think it deserves to be number one.

Don't really get Shaun of the Dead being in top 20.  Funny film but second best ever?Huh??  really???

City of God is an absolute must see and the fact that it is the only non english language film in the list when really something like half should be foreign films speaks volumes.  I would have Amelie in there too.  Never everv watched a film that made me feel as happy as Amelie did.  Just a great feel good film.  The Godfather has to be higher than 10 too.

Oh...and Clueless must be a mistake or there must be a film called Clueless that I haven't seen because the vacuous rubbish I watched is not in the top 20000 films.

The IMDb top 10 is pretty close to spot on IMO, Inception is slightly overrated due to being new:

Rank   Rating   Title   Votes
1.   9.2   The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
2.   9.2   The Godfather (1972)
3.   9.0   The Godfather: Part II (1974)
4.   8.9   The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
5.   8.9   Pulp Fiction (1994)
6.   8.9   Schindler's List (1993)
7.   8.9   12 Angry Men (1957)
8.   8.8   Inception (2010)
9.   8.8   One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
10.   8.8   The Dark Knight (2008)

Pretty close.  Agree with the inception and prob Dark Knight being in there cos there new, but no real complaints.

Although I would have Goodfellas and Toy Story in there. (And Taxi Driver, Chinatown, Raging Bull, Apocalyspe Now, Fight Club, Jaws, Blade runner, Star Wars, Lord of the rings, Ailen, Die Hard, The Apartment, Heat, Terminator 2, and a lot more)  Seriously hows anyone meant to narrow it down to 10 or 20?

I liked clueless but it's inclusion here just makes the whole list meaningless

and the imdb one obviously has flaws. it's pretty good but having godfather above godfather 2 is just wrong

Fairly sure that a panel of "experts" or the like picked the 20 films and the public basically picked their favourite from the 20. Wasn't as if you could pick any film you like to vote on.

Jaws >>>>> Everything else...and still lol at The Dark Knight, most overrated film ever! laughable fight scenes, Bale is awful with his comedy growl and non existent plot...Batman Begins was a lot better.

Be surprised if a panel of experts came up with these twenty films.  Too many of the critics standing dishes are missing and it has that bias towards more recent releases that is present in every top x list voted on by the public.  Suppose it culd have been from a list of 100 or something.

Just had a quick look and it seems that the public submitted videos saying what their favourites were then an expert panel picked the top 20 which were then voted on.  Makes some sense of the order then I guess.  Can imagine your average Shaun of the Dead fan being quite pc literate and being more likely to vote than, say, someone who loves Citizen Kane.
