Home safe and sound after our week in Vegas.  And what a week it was!  Had an absolutely brilliant time with everyone.  We'd a nice group of people along who were great in a group and didn't need minding during quieter times.

As for Vegas itself?  I'm not sure I've ever before been as overwhelmed and underwhelmed simultaneously.  I've loads of photos and a few tales from the trip as well as the back log from before I left.  Will be catching up over the next few days.  For now - I'm hoping to see a full solid night's sleep.  The city that never sleeps?  Might be New York they were on about, but Vegas is no different.  And I didn't sleep so much either.  I'm not even a city.  Getting to be the size of a small town though to be fair.

That sounded a bit rude at first.  Cheeky pup.

Can we go yet? Can we go yet?

Oh wait a second, hmmm

Yes confirmed it seems we can :-)

Yes we can and yes we did!  What a trip!

It all started with a group of us arriving the night before at a Manchester airport hotel.  We'd to be at the airport around 10am the next day so it made sense to avoid an OMG a.m. start for those of us living any bit away.  There were talks of being sensible mixed in with talks of a session.  I'd like to think we had something along the lines of a 'sensible session'.  Some were so sensible, they even took naps.

There were about 27 of us on the one flight.  The next morning we all managed to get up on time and had a hassle free check in before making our way to the bar.  We took it easy in the bar as we'd have about 7 hours of free drinks to get through on the flight...or so we thought.  Half way into the flight, word got out they'd run out of nearly all drink.  Sigh.  Just as well as it happens.  Our bodies were going to need the rest.

JB had sorted limo transfers earlier in the week for a group of us which was nice.  Took the worry and hassle out of it for those of us who had never been with the added bonus of a bit of bling.  These were the only pictures taken from my phone and they're blurry, but you get the idea...

For a start, I didn't realise Las Vegas was in a valley.  I know...just another clueless Yank.  But to be fair, America is a pretty huge country and up to now I'd only seen a bit of 10 states, none of them in the west.  A valley, huh?  Anyway, not an interesting fact as such, just something that surprised me.

As we drove from the airport to Harrah's, I was also shocked to see just how 'poor' the town really is.  Nobody ever mentions that when they're talking about Vegas.  Sure you've the bright lights and massive buildings that make up the casino resorts, but I'm not talking about them.  I'm referring to the 'real' Vegas.  Houses and flats I wouldn't dare walk past, never mind live in.  Are these the people who clean our rooms, serve our food and deal our cards while we're out there 'living it up'?  It was all a bit surreal and I wasn't sure how I felt about that.

After a pain free check in, it was time to meet up with everyone for a few initiation drinks.  That portion of the night didn't turn out to be quite as pain free for some as we discovered the tall cheesy tourist drinks at Carnival Court.

Not sure what time it was here, but from the look on Colin's face, I'd go with 'late'

At some point in the night, a few of them found their way to the poker room.  I was officially unable for poker at that stage, but did manage to chat with a local character.  Don't remember what his name is, but we had a good laugh with him.

Have no idea how the rest managed to keep going.  We'd been up, travelling and hanging out with a goodly while by now.  I was fit for only one thing at that stage...sleep!

Sleep didn't hit as hard as I'd hoped.  I was wide awake again by 4am...only a few hours after nodding off.  My body was wrecked but my brain just wouldn't shut down.  Thought something was wrong with me, but turns out a goodly few were experiencing the same thing.  Welcome to jet lag.  Thought we were being smart staying up to a late Vegas hour bringing our bodies in sync, but no joy.  We'd a 21st birthday and a stag do to get through on Friday too.  Marv!  Good luck with that.

Friday morning was my first exposure to the typical Vegas all you can eat buffet.  Holy mother of God, it was HUGE!!!  And so many lovely things to chose from too.  If I'd been on a diet pre-Vegas, it was deffo good game diet.  As luck would have it, I'd decided not to get silly with dieting until after Christmas so it was party time!

I'd every intention of hitting each buffet station light and reckoned I'd surely get a taste of the lot by the time I was full.  Yeah.  Good luck with that.  I was innocent.  Knew not what I was on about.  And didn't even come close to getting half way through the place before a JCB was required to clear me from the place.  I was stuffed to the rafters before the second plate was even empty.  Fail.  Sigh.

But I'd not had me grits yet!  Or the cheese blintzes.  Or the, or the, or....oh, never mind.  We'd all the week to get through the lot.  No worries.

The plan for Friday - 21st for Ger Jr. and Stag do for Adam to happen together in Hawaiian theme.  What could possibly go wrong?

For a start, the Lads found a $1 a drink bar right next door to Harrah's.  We weren't meant to meet up with the larger group until 3pm (or 5pm - depending on who you asked).  It was only noon.  Good luck me shuffling that lot to another location in a few hours time.  While Jack, JB, Matt & Stu Ward, Steve, PhilTC, Simon and a few more spent the next couple of hours drinking like it was their last day on Earth, I was busy doing a trial run on Joob's hair for her wedding day.

Also ironed the most ridic Hawaiian shirts.  "Can't believe we're going to be seen in public wearing this shite," said I to Joobs.  Wasn't until we made our way to meet the other half of the group, that I realised people actually wear that type of shirt willingly.  WTF is wrong with them?!

On to meet the gang.  Eventually.  It's walk-able...was a lie.  "FFS RODDERS!!!" was shouted in unison by at least half a dozen at one point when we faced yet another flight of stairs.  Would have felt bad for him only I was facing those stairs too and wearing thin on energy.  Luckily the Bellagio Fountain show broke it up a bit for us...

First stop - The Pub in Monte Carlo

JP (sporting his recently acquired porn tash) went for one of their 'taster' options while JB looked unimpressed...or hungover from the night before.  You decide.
