Pocket 9's with 30 bigs facing an early open, its a $30 2r1a The opener is a fairly decent winning reg. About +$350k lifetime on OPR. Same scenario happened to me twice tonight in the same comp vrs the same player within a couple of hands. Interested in how people play this hand, whats the best line in these spots?

hand 1 looks like a 3b/call if he's got aggro tendancies, Reg opens MP, another reg 3bets the HJ bla bla bla he wagers all his chips with AJ etc seems to be the stnd in these donkament jobbies.

having said that, surely this is also a lovely spot to do some peeling, although ur range to peel is prolly stronger overall than your range to 3b given the stated dynamic.

Here's my fishy thoughts...

First up i hate jamming and a nit like me doesnt love 3b calling here either really. Yes a Hixx open here is probably quite wide but if i 3b with intention of calling off does he really 4b jam with worse than 9's given that he's raised in earlyish pos and ive 3b with about 4 players to act? My hand must/should look strong to him here with 99 probs being the bottom of my range. If im getting it in here im hoping for a flip. I prefer calling over folding but then i invite other players to call behind or open the door for a squeeze and i wont know what to do on most flops with a smallish stack and could get owned or outdrawn by a hand that would never have been involved had i 3b pre. Peeling here i could end up levelling myself and or doing 1/3  or 1/2 my stack which is obv terrible

What would be your play with 99 here if you hand 40, 50 or 60 bigs here and villian had you covered, i guess peel then? However, if were miles ahead with 99 with 30 bigs and people are saying get it in, fistpump etc then why not get it in fistpump if we have a much bigger stack. It seems my play is a function of my stack size which i know is the most important thing about mtt's. If i had 12 bigs ofc i jam although that doesnt change my opponents holdings and i could still be crushed.

I dunno, maybe im over complicating things here. In the hands above yes i did just muck the pock 9's, i dont always and it did feel abit dirty, not sure why i did on this occasion and i'd expect some flamming for this Smiley Whats our line in the same situ with 77 or 88 here?

pretty sure, given how wide brammmmmma has indicated he might be opening you will always find some profit in a 3bet call, even if he never jams light.

Player,Equity,Wins Hi,Ties Hi
99,                           35.1265%,34.9292%,0.3946%
"AQs, AK, AKs, JJ+",   64.8735%,64.6762%,0.3946%

according to the FE calcs we need him folding 62% ish of the time to break even, and ofc, by 3b'ing and not jamming we give him the opportunity to potentially jam worse which ofc increases our equity and leaves us requiring less folds to make money on the play.

I thought there was only 1 hand lol, I'd jam the first one and either 3b/call the 2nd or peel. I'd jam the first hand expecting to get called vs a good reg 77+ AJs+, that range too wide ?

Why jam hand 1 and 3b call or peel the 2nd hand? Whats the big diff? These two hands happened pretty much bk to bk

He's opening from mid pos in hand 1 so his opening range is wider and our jamming range incs weaker hands/bluffs from late pos then if we jam vs an utg open when utg+2, doubt we are very often doing that as a bluff.
