If you're on an odd and it helps I'll drop out no problem. I'm still totally clueless anyway, but will follow this season to try and get a handle on what you guys are doing.
Obviously if we have the right number with me I'm still gonna donate and hopefully next year I'll understand a bit better. At the moment the only players I really know are the ones that Jones and Shrewdie tell me to bet on

Thanks for the offer - lets see how things shape up.
If you do miss out there's always an option to set you up as a co-manager of a team if someone is happy to do this. You'll at least get a feel for what's going on and be more involved (and someone might want someone as backup/cover for when they're not around.
As for player knowledge, one season of this will give you a much wider appreciation of things. You'll be reeling off names of backup Tight Ends in no time!

We've got an existing league on nfl.com. I've used NFL, ESPN and Yahoo, and prefer Yahoo overall, but not planning to move the league this season as everyone is familiar with it now.
Last season, we used almost standard rosters to keep it as straightforward as possible and to ensure there wasn't a huge advantage for more experienced players by requiring really deep knowledge. Consequently, rosters were QB, 2xRB, 2xWR, 1xTE, 1 RB/WR Flex (the only non-standard adjustment), 1xK, 1xDEF and 6xBENCH. We had 10 players, so everything stayed fairly shallow.
I think the only tweaks I'd plan this year would be to maybe add a second flex spot of some sort, and maybe a 2nd TE, but the exact nature depends on how many players we end up with. 2xQB is an option if 10 or 12, but not if we end up with 16 players as it becomes a bit of a lottery with injuries when all the QBs are required.
Ultimately, I'll adjust with a view to making it a little more challenging to manage rosters from last season, but not to the detriment of deterring newcomers, so the overall aim is not to completely drain the player pool and virtually eliminate the weekly waiver activity.
I played in a 20 player league last season where the above happened. I also played in a 12 player, double roster league (i.e. 2xQB, 4xRB, 6xWR, 2xTE, 2xK, 2xDEF, 12xBN) which was fantastic fun for me, but meant that you literally were looking for 3rd/4th choice players on the depth chart to make a difference/cover injuries and 8 teams would be trying to get them on waivers. That's not the type of depth I'm trying to create in this league as it will deter newcomers if it becomes too specialist.
All bench players are standard (i.e. there's no IR) and it's not a keeper league so we all start on an equal footing each season.
Hope the above makes sense (I've assumed you're not new to this in the reply!)

No worries, I'm fine with whichever works best for the comp as a whole. Obv more dead money is welcome I'm sure

I think the way the real game has gone means that drafting large numbers of players makes the fantasy game much harder to play thru the season for the reason you touched on that the free agent player pool is much too shallow to cover up the inevitable injuries. I have played in 2 leagues for a 5+ years and in both those for this season we have reduced the amount of players drafted and the number in a starting team.
In the main league we had 14 managers selecting 16 players and starting 9 each week, the problem with taking 224 players in the draft was the rb position, we had one guy start Cad Williams in the first game of the season who was the back up at St Louis coz he didn't have any other fit rb's, we also had three managers start 3 different rb's from the same team as early as week 5.
Just a suggestion based on the probs we have had in those leagues when we increased the managers playing we found we needed to reduce the players taken and the number in the starting squad each week to keep it playable. The one with 14 managers in kind of fizzled out last season as the ones that were lucky with injuries came to the top and the ones that were not couldn't do anything about it due to the lack of free agents.
I'm really looking forward to the game.

So far, so good. All but 3 payments received with a few days to spare (Marky is awaiting confirmation from me that we have even numbers) and we have enough $100 entrants for the side pot to run. Thanks to everyone who's paid so far.
I'm working on the basis that we'll now have 12 in the league, and no more than this, so will confirm roster decisions based on that number. Will post more info either later tonight or sometime tomorrow.
