NTL has failed me for the first time in 18 months I have suffered an extended outage of about an hour and a half. Has anyone else had any problems?
I could add that I was involved in two STTs, leading one heads up and chipped up with 7 left in the other, but I won't burden you with my troubles. The furniture has paid the price...

It's not a problem I've had before so I have no contingency in place. Perhaps I should make some plans.
NTL have chosen the wrong time to let me down, I'm moving next month and shall be surveying the market for broadband services. Does anyone have any recommendations? Service is more important than price.

LOL, so you can browse their computer Tiscali have been excellent for me, i have had an account with them since they started (dial up and now BB). Never let me down (well one glitch but only slowed slightly).

Sometimes you have to suffer a little bit in your youth to motivate yourself to succeed in later life. Do you think if Bill Gates got laid in high school, do you think there'd be a Microsoft? Of course not.

Bandit broadband i can reccomend . Did i mention its free. Just turn that wireless network card on and search for an unsecured network , ensure you have a decent enough firewall and bobs your uncle. Banditt broadband no installation fee charged either.

I use Demon Broadband. It's a little bit more than the others but you get what you pay for. Demon have been in the internet business for as long as I can remember.
I have a dialup as a backup and BT Broadband on a Laptop. Demon have been down only once in a year for me.

Bloody fustrating and costly Wardonkey I use AOL broadband with a BT landline during the day :no probs at all......but at home, I only have dial up through Telewest (now part of NTL I believe) and touch wood its been absolutely fine for a couple of years.

I've never had a problem with NTL's internet, it's usually fantastic. Getting customer support however isn't. Check out www.adslguide.org if you are thinking of changing - it lists everyone that supplies broadband in the UK and you can compare ISPs.

Thanks for all the advice and a useful link from Silo.
This was the first time I've had trouble with my NTL connection, I've just spoken with them on the phone and they were able to provide me with a detailed technical explaination as to what happened and reassured me that it was a 'once in a blue moon' event. They coud have been bluffing tho', I have no idea what the lady was on about.
Unless I get problems in the next month I'll probably stick with NTL, I have a TV/phone/internet package with them that is quite reasonable and their service has been very reliable apart from this incident. On this occasion I also received acceptable customer service.

I use my mobile phone as an emergency backup. If you get a data cable to connect your mobile to your computer you can use the GPRS to get on the internet. I wouldnt recommend it for browsing but the connection is strong enough to support most online poker rooms. It has helped me out on a few occassions late in MTTs when our wireless broadband has KO'd.
