Hi. Played a £1/2 game last night. It was great.

I'm up to about £470. Villain in this hand has also chipped up nicely, has me just about covered. Have not seen him play anything other than ABC so far, just value towning top pairs/two pairs against stations.

I get dealt   UTG+1 on a 9 handed table. I open to £7.

Folds round to Villain on c/o, calls. Button calls. Blinds fold.

Flop (£23)        two spades

I check. Villain bets £16. Button calls. I decide to call.

Turn (£71)

I check. Villain bets £44. Button folds. I call.

River (£159)

I check. Villain bets £85. I call.

Thoughts?

What's villain's bet calling range on the river?

If your not gonna raise here, anyone whos decent is gonna realise your massively polarised whenever you raise the river and will crush your soul.

Also, you have a backdoor flush. A front door one is good, but this one is EXCELLENT. You should try and make some more money out of it imo.

A+

+1 to all of Mitch's post.

I'm guessing you posting this means you lost to something like A9ss/A5ss but we should always be raising river here.

+1 to everyone who said c-bet too.

Thank you sirs.

Under most circumstances of course I would have jammed the river. When the queen hit I was dancing around inside. It should have come the of course, but I'm no Alex Golder.

So obv I checked waiting to jam on his bet.

But I don't know. My gut instinct started to curl. I didn't feel this particular guy would be betting this much money without having a VERY good chance of having me beat. There was something about him, the way he was smirking when he was picking his betting disks.  This was easily the biggest pot of the night on this particular table. I felt his turn bet could include just as many bigger flush draws as it could 2pr/sets.

I don't know, just the way I'm running recently. That's why I decided to only call the river. obv Really really bad I know, guess I'm just meant to stack off in that situ.

Really bad in a reggy game like DTD I know, and I'm pretty certain I would have stacked off there, but there isn't the greatest need for me to stay balanced in this particular game.

The point in me posting this thread was to try and see if anybody else trusts gut instincts like this and lets it overcome a glaringly +EV spot, or do you ALWAYS go with it as it works out in the very end?
