40 + 40 x 0 + 1 = 1.
I have done this on 2 different calculators and both come out at 1.

This is because you are typing them into your calculator in the wrong order.
The multiplication must be calculated first and 40 X 0 = 0. Then add 40 = 40. Then add 1 = 41.
Simples.
