It's a debate that we could probably have back and forth for a good while.

Is having 10k starting stacks on a 25 minute clock too much? I, for one, think so. 90% of my customers seem to lap it up. When I have meddled with tournaments in the past to have faster structures, it backfired spectacularly.

It's easy to say that it is ridiculous, but ultimately, I am getting 80-90 runners EVERY Friday without fail. One might argue that such a field is equally as obtainable with less chips, but then, I must ask, "why fix it if it aint broke?"

I'll always listen to feedback and views, but it's going really good at Luton at present. Our numbers are really good, Dealer's Choice has grown and grown - with thanks due to Jim for significant involvement in getting the games organised.

I have been concerned that we're not getting the high stake (for us) NLH games. Then I look at six smaller limit cash games on Saturday night and wonder to myself if I am simply guilty of what my predecessors were guilty of… looking back at what was - instead of accepting what is and embracing it.

People have less to spend. They want value for their money, so you have to offer something that provides entertainment and playability. We give an average chip stack (in comparison) and as balanced a blind structure as can be given to a one-day event. Some want it faster. Some want it with fewer chips. But most like it just the way that it is, and as far as I am concerned, if the majority are happy with our games and they are playing regularly and our business is growing then I feel that I am doing something right.

Ironically, the hardest period I endured in my job role was when I kept listening to all of the advice I was being given, “change this, change that, that’s wrong, do this” and it kept getting worse. As has been pointed out on here, people like consistency and it is getting –busier- because of that fact.

Obviously there are hitches. For instance, I feel that Thursday evening suffers despite it being probably the best-structured competition of the week – as well as a generous guarantee. We add no less than £500 practically every week and still we cannot get the runners, so I have to accept that on this evening I should stop and take advice.

It’s one of those things. Everyone thinks it’d be easy to run a poker room. To be honest, I still think if I had the kind of bankroll that Mr. Yong has, I’d be able to do a grand job of it myself. However, half the trick is being able to get the company to part with money it really doesn’t want to and in that sense I feel that I’ve succeeded above and beyond what I’ve ever seen anyone else manage across the entire estate of Grosvenor.

It’s a good card room. We’re busy, our cash action and tournaments are perhaps not punching in the top division any more but it’s still great value for anyone bar the professional or those with particularly high disposable incomes.

My biggest concern? I need a few more dealers. Other than that, I think we’re in a very good place.

254 runners in our first festival main event in two years bar the GUKPT was a nice touch, too. We shall be running those every 3 to 4 months.

Anyhow, I do still read the thread and pay attention to what is said, so fire away. You could also speak to me in person at the club, where I am far easier to talk to because I speak far more concisely than I write!

Definitely right to plough  yr  own  furrow  George.  I'm  not  a  fan  of  some  of  the  structures   but   so what really.   The room is doing well  and I'm pleased yr efforts have paid off.

Yuh, what Nirvana sayed, defo do it your way George.

The Friday night crew drive the likes of Claypole to tears - it's not poker, the purists will say, and they'd be right - but you can't argue with the numbers.

Blondes that frequented this thread a couple of years ago are no longer your hardcore regs. You have to look after the new breed of squareheads and give they'm what they want.

Yes Chompy, nearly did drive me to tears....however as I said on Friday and to Vinny on Saturday, I'm with George, the card room is busy and reflects all his hard efforts so keep going. I'll still come up, it's a fun night out and as long as I get chance to have a chat with you, Vinny, Gav, Glen etc it's a night out. And as we discussed at the table, just got to adjust innit or smile (although I find it hard it getting easier).  It's want the punters what and I for one think George deserves some credit and it's a busy card room again, which is great.  I might put some time into properly studying dealers choice so I can come up and have some fun.

Well done George - see you next week during GUKPT.....where I will donk off and still lose in a field of more poker purists Smiley

Well done George.  Was good to see the facebook update of 7 cash games running.  Would be nice if there was regular 1/2 there, as I do enjoy it at Luton and would far rather grind there than at the Vic, but if you're filling the room and getting any kind of cash action going then its a massive success compared to how it was when you first took over.

GL and really looking forward to the GUKPT week.  Will try and play as many as I can.

Is there a tournament this saturday afternoon? It´s time for my six monthly visit to the G. If anybody could provide details of start time, buy in, approx number of runners then that would be great.

Thank you in advance.
