Hi All,

Could you tell me where I went wrong on this hand please....  in $200 MTT on PStars - blinds 200/400 25 Ante

My Stack 8,475
Other Bloke 12,315

Im in the BB with    guy acting 4th raises 1200 folded to me I raise another 1200 - he calls

Flop    two hearts   BINGO - I'm already celebrating but want to get his chips in so I check - he checks.

Turn    -  I check he puts in 4000 - after much deliberation I move all in for my remaining chips which he's commited to call showing .....

Woooohooo I'm doublin up here and getting up the board !!!!  but wait ..... before i finish celebrating the  lands on the river !!!

So I curse politely under my breath - until he starts telling me to learn how to play .....  so your thoughts greatly appreciated.

His point was that I raised pre flop with Ace high - I said it was to define my hand to see if he had monster pair ......I thought my check on flop was a good trap and it worked.  So was I just unlucky or was there a better way to play it ?

Thanks

I'm no where near an excellent player so you don't have to listen to what I say! The only thing I would've done differently is bet on the flop, perhaps all in depending on the mood I was in, checking made it too easy for him, I don't think he would've called with the flop showing a flush against his pair of 9's. Unlucky with that last 9 though, sorry x

You done sod all wrong there, You laid a nice trap, he bluffs it with his nines, You got rivered, he had 4 outs to your made hand, Nowt wrong, keep doing than and in the long run you will be rewarded.

I'm not sure I like the miniraise preflop though  - i don't really think it achieves much.

Is you intention to pass to a reraise? an all in? You'd be getting pretty good odds to call with only 2 hands you really don't want to see...

I don't think he can fold any 2 cards as he is getting excellent odds ~ 3.25-1.

He already has you heads up and so may elect to call with a big pair to trap you as the field has already been thinned.

After the flop you obviously have a monster and managed to get all the chips in as a huge favourite and got unlucky, I can't say you need to worry too much about your play here.

I agree with Bongo, because you're going to act first after the flop I think you should push here. Negates your positional disadvantage and leaves him with a difficult call for over half his stack. If you were on the button I'd mix the raising with sometimes just calling so you can't be read.

Nothing wrong with the way you played it, you flopped the nuts and didnt want to lose your punter. you were looking for max value. Just bad luck.

Thanks for the responses guys / gals - agree the pre-folp raise may have been a mistake as it then sweetened the pot for later but I would have called and all in, would that have been correct ??

BTW - am 8th with 14 left for a place in the EPT event in France - Riverdave is in 14th at the moment.  I have the best cash player on Stars at my table running things !!!  Wish me luck - only been this close once before - for the PCA event and went on bubble .......

Here's hoping for a happy ending to the evening ...........

( apart from not getting any sleep and having to be at work at 7am )

So much for luck - called raise with AK off.  Flop came with rag rag K showing 2 diamonds.  He put me all in I called - A10 Diamonds.  Flush hit and I went out in 14th !!!  Only money back to show for it.

Riverdave still in tho .......

If you were going to call all in i'd prefer to push all in in the first instance and give him a difficult decision and, as Homer said, negate your positional disadvantage for the rest of the hand.

I am not sure if this is a bad beat thread or a genuine question, i will answer all the same.

I think you played pre flop horribly, you are offering him over 3-1 with position and you only had AK!!! What do you do on the 8 hi flop??

As it happens you got you miracle but you have shown so much strength pre flop the way you played it so many hands are scared to put money in, if i had 99 i am expecting AA/KK!!! Luckily he was a bit of a fool.

I still lead the flop, but then i always continuation bet, if i hit or not, doesnt look like it would matter vs this mug though!

dont wqorry about the raise preflop, doesnt matter wot u raised noone folds a pair heads up, so u woulda got called no matter wot u bet, in his defence uve checked the flop so he knows u dont have a jack and when the second j comes his 2 pair thinks its ahead understandably, u played it fine but so did he, u were just unlucky
