yesterday for desert i had a baked banana with yoghurt & honey, it was amazing.  I always crave something sweet after a nice meal, trying to find healthy replacements.

989,000 metres to go. Today was my first day back in the gym post holiday break and my goal after an initial post on here was to get down to sub 7min for a 2k erg, pull, row or whatever you want to call it on a concept 2 ( there is a lot of difference as to how this is referred by different athletes/ gym users). So in devising a training plan that would incorporate steady state long rows, 5k tempo row, 2k and 500m intervals I worked out I would be using the concept 2 approx 3 times a week. In between I would be doing other sessions, Saturday morning is usually weights and when fit, Sunday is usually long runs, additionally I have to partake in a circuit with workmates on a Weds morning before work and to top it off work matey is trying to set up a social running club at work and naturally I get the call today. With all that, it's going to be tough to fit the 2/3 sessions a week in to meet my new target of 1 mirrion metres ( yes 1,000,000 pulled for the calendar year).

Hopefully this does not come over as big headed and look at me, as my intention is to motivate myself by keeping a record on this thread and to motivate all those who are partaking in their own personal challenge as all challenges are relative to the individual. What I hope to get across is the struggle, hard work and pain that we all may be facing in the coming months. I believe in hard work pays off, reaps rewards and hopefully if anyone is needing the motivation then this may just give them that get up and go.

With almost 3 weeks of doing not a lot, thanks to Christmas and still recovering from a twisted ankle from the end of last year I hit the gym this afternoon. Plan was to do a steady 10k where I warm up as part of the distance and ease in pulling slow 500's for the first 1k and increasing the tempo as I count the metres down. The freshness led me to pull quicker than what I would normally do in the warm up and this continued through my first 3k, between 3 and 5k I was hooped but pulling 2:05min/500s which is again faster than planned but coming through the half way marker I was out of it and the demons we're telling me that's enough. The break had taken it's toll and no exercise of note for a few weeks was leaving me in a physical state that I would not normally be at. I dug in and despite the odd 500 drifting off I finished well and went through 10k at 42:09.  I finished off with a 1k warm down and a number of stretches for my back and shoulders. Job done, 11k in the bank and many more to do. I am more than happy to give a cash donation should I not my target and for each target I do make I will also give a little donation so it's win win.

Remember, if in doubt, smash it out!

Stick your running stuff on the Loneliness of a Long Distance Runner thread.

I have a feeling you might be joining a team for the tr24 this year... Wink

I was supposed to be starting diet yesterday, but after checking scales yesterday I realised that I have actually started losing weight already. I have gone from 11st11lbs to 11st 3lbs. Good stuff. However, adjustments needed to diet in few days.

I can't seem to quit fizzy pop though, any suggestions? Diet, tastes awful.

Any more suggestions on ways to get flatter stomach also? This seems to be most difficult.

I think you're going to have to go cold turkey on the fizzy drinks but even one can a day is 10 lumps of sugar, which isn't going to help with weight loss.

Drinking lots of water is key, I would cut pop and squash type drinks all together. Lots of running/swimming and no beer or bread works for me for the flat stomach.

Suffer is my only suggestion Cheesy

Diet and low body fat is the only way to flat stomach and abs..... I think that <16% bodyfat is when abs start to become visible.

As the old joke goes.. was disappointed when I found out ScrewFix was not a dating Agency.  Well, today, I was similarly disappointed to find out that No Strings Attached Badminton wasn't quite what I imagined either!  "Come along for some mixed doubles fun" they said...

However, I did play badminton for 2 hours, going to be interesting when I wake up tomorrow......

If you can't even quit fizzy pop then seriously just give up now because you clearly aren't that bothered about getting that flatter stomach you talk about.

Diets only work when you really want them to. Crack the fizzy pop thing and you'll give yourself a psychological edge and make the whole thing so much easier.

The best way to quit fizzy pop is generally to stop purchasing it. You'll find that when it's not available it doesn't matter how much you crave it.

Was fkn starving most the day today, could have chewed on a card board box, probably a result of going to the gym the last 3 days.

I wilted in the end and went to McDonalds  but got to the drive through order thingy with the intention of ordering the full monty, but fortunately had a change of heart at the last minute and just had a cheeseburger for 300 calories. Not ideal but not a disaster either, onwards and upwards.

When you're training and starving it's better to eat something crap than nothing at all.

You can happily let yourself off with this one.

F**k knows how you managed to go to McD's and only order a cheeseburger though!!!
