ELITE FIELD TURNS OUT FOR PKR.com WPT IRELAND
Dublin, January 6, 2012 – The first ever World Poker Tour event on Irish soil got under way yesterday at Dublin’s CityWest hotel. The €2,500 buy-in main event, sponsored by next-gen poker room PKR, attracted a field of 338 players from around the world including WSOP, WPT and EPT champions. The four-day tournament will reach its conclusion on Sunday night, when one player will walk away with €222,280 including a $25,500 seat for the 2012 WPT® World Championship at Bellagio, Las Vegas and a WPT title.
Notable participants included Sam Trickett, Praz Bansi, Toby Lewis, James Dempsey, Sam El Sayed, Barny Boatman, Marvin Rettenmaier and the female pros Leo Margets, Tatjana Pasalic and Kara Scott, along with a trio of World Series of Poker Main Event finalists - James Akenhead, Jon Kalmar and Irish legend Andy Black. Former World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty is also still in the hunt for his first major poker title.

Interested viewers get the chance to watch the final table in a live stream which starts Sunday, January 8 at 3.30pm (GMT) with commentaries by Jesse May. There will be also an exclusive PKR WPT Ireland $1,000 Freeroll on Sunday at 7.00pm (GMT). The registration for it starts at 3.00 (GMT).

PKR fielded a 46-strong team of online qualifiers, 28 of whom return today for Day 2. The event was also a first opportunity for latest signing Jake Cody to play alongside his six fellow Team PKR Pros – James ‘james666’ Sudworth, Sofia ‘welllbet’ Lovgren, Sascha ‘locodice’ Walter, Marc ‘Waswini’ Bariller, Scott ‘PKR_Scott’ Shelley and EPT Snowfest champion Vladimir ‘Beyne’ Geshkenbein.
