DILEMMA and its bugging the shit out of me

Arrive June 1st

2/6 WSOP $1500 LH

3/6 WSOP $1500 NLH 6 max

4/6 Venetian $600 Bounty and $300 Survivor

5/6 WSOP NLH MM $1500

6/6 WSOP NLH MM $1500

7/6 WSOP $3000 LH 6 max

8/6 WSOP $1500 NLH

9/6 Wynns $300

Now the dilemma is do i play Venetian Deepstack on arrival and miss first 2 WSOP events and first day of MM if i go deep

or do i just get stuck into all the WSOP events

Yeah i realise i will probably go bust early in deepstack and that answers it all

I'd swerve the Venetian on June 1st, you'll be tired, & there's no point jumping straight off the 'plane into a Tourney, you'll not give of your best, & you'd be better just chilling & settling in on your arrival day. Jumping straight into a Tourney the moment you arrive is best left to younger folk.

Bugger. That'll teach me to speed-read.

Try again.

Play the WSOP events. Better structure by far, better value, & it's the WSOP.

Dunc and red, and others.

Out of interest, not sure if you travel alone, but if you do, what do yo do if you bust early, when you have set yourself a clear budget?

I know my replays were to always one thing, but invariably I would scamper to the next available ish decent tourney I could find. The back up plans of pool, shops, etc, never usually materialised. The rush, once there, was too much.

Similar, or more disciplined?

Think I'll be reading Moorman's book Smiley

No, I tend to get a bus to strip and play low buy in cash if I bust a downtown event, not a drinker and my degeneracy for casino games was long ago sated.

Maybe very stupid questions here so please don't laugh...

1) internet on British airways flights to vegas?
2) electronic plugs?

1) None.
2) http://www.britishairways.com/cms/global/pdfs/Travel_classes/guide-to-in-seat-power.pdf Cliffs - depends on the type of aircraft and whether you're in cattle, club or first.

1) Don't know as I fly Virgin.  On there, internet is available, but expensive, so I imagine BA will be similar.

2)

Just get yourself a couple of these, don't bother with the cheap ones, these will do anywhere in world to anywhere in world, so will be able to work with any plug into any socket, wherever you travel to.  You should be able to get them from the airport electronics shop, but obviously will be cheaper to buy elsewhere.  Or just take 10% of someone binking 6figs and let the extra cost slide this once.

They will be fine for charging phones/laptops etc in your room.  However, you might also want to think about a tiny US friendly charging device for your phone.  Many tables around town have power strips underneath the table now.  I don't suppose it matters if you play poker with a rucksack or manbag all day, but if like me you just have shorts and a t-shirt, then a very small phone charger + short USB-cable easily fits into a pocket, something like this:

Try to get rid of my shopping duty as early as possible, which tends to be the first day I bust early, but this year might be my first late start.

The rest depends on the budget.  I'd be far more likely to look for another game if I have already cashed or missed a day one.  If I bust really early I'll probably look for another game.  I should probably just play 1/3 at the Wynn rather than find a crapshoot with a 20% fee, but we'll see.

It is good to have a break from the kids, so guess I might do some chilling with a book or similar if the budget is tight, and guess I may need to catch up on sleep.  Really depends on if I bump into anyone I know too.

I have definitely lost that poker itch where I just have to play all the time, but it is pretty much my one opportunity to play live all year.  I can't see my playing too many long days unless I run deep.

I am not alone, i go with a higher stakes cash game player that I work with outside of poker, which does mean we have different schedules but at least have someone to bounce off etc.    Tend to bump into redsimon most days too and the low buy in mixed game circuit tends to be a lot of the same faces year on year so rarely have dinner alone etc.  Last year one day instead of playing was spent railing a friend of mine on his way to winning a bracelet.
Budget is flexible so yeah i do find i end up playing other low buy in tourneys or small cash games.  Can happily chill playing 2-4 limit for a couple of hours if need be or even the 60 buck crapshoots around town.   Really depends on how I am doing, if I am losing I try not to chase the losses,  if I am winning or breaking even the schedule opens up a bit.
Dont play table games and have promised myself i will get to the pool this year.

On a day that my mate and me both bust early we tend to jump into the car and go to primm to do some shopping and escape vegas for a few hours

Long since lost the itch to the point where it was 18 hours poker a day.  Even when I was grinding my nuts off, I could hardly ever sleep, so the 6 other hours a day were spent exploring.  Pick a hotel or three, have a really good look around.  Learn which "secret exits" can get you up and down the strip without having to go outdoors much, good spots for lunch/dinner that you didn't know existed, bars that look worth checking out later, handy shops that you didn't know were there and random tourist attractions that look worth a try.  (they probably aren't worth it, but worth finding out once for yourself.)

Renting a car changes Vegas for you.  You can start to explore things that you would never bother with if you had to get cabs.  You can easily see the rest of the city and as with any city, there are good bits and bits to never re-visit.

Last few years, I deliberately don't bother playing mtts, as I enjoy them for about 3 levels and then feel aggrieved that I have to sit there any longer when I don't really want to.  To the point when I am sincerely appreciative when some nimrod sends me spinning out halfway through level 4. ~ it feels like he has given me my day back!

Ive done Vegas thick end of thirty times, but I suspect a couple of days with you Simon, showing me round would be a real eye opener.

Thanks for the replies guys, and GL this year.

ESTA asks for Employment information now.

Any suggestions of the best way to complete this section if main income is poker for ten years? I've been grilled and searched twice before and want to avoid that if possible this time, not sure how to give a satisfactory answer to this section though.

Isn't it just a yes/no question? Answer no if that's the truth, better than making stuff up?
