Post office does a travel money card but I'm not sure of the max load up on there.

Would I pay a % fee each time I spent on it? or pay a ridiculous exchange rate?

Off the top of my head I think you pay the exchange rate when you buy it in Britain and it is then free to withdraw.
Def check tho

I just read this thread from page 1 to the end so forgive me, my head is in a spin!!!
The question that I haven't really found an answer to, is the cash/card option..
Were staying in a house away from the strip, and I prob need about $20,000. So we aint gonna have a safe in the house...So what would people recommend to do.
Is there a card I can get which I load money onto before I go and pay for things like food/clothes/trips out on it and it wont charge me a fee?
I'll be playing some cash while im there, is it safe to be walking around with say $5k in your pocket?
Our house is 6 miles away from the Rio to the east of the strip, is it recommended to hire a car. How much would cabs be?
Thanks in advance
I use my bank / credit card to buy stuff ,or with winnings I don't find it's too expensive ,
Most players have a reasonable amount of cash on them just be careful where u walk / don't wave it about , I have 400/600 in one bundle for taxis n expenses the bigger amount is tucked away safely
If you don't have a safe rent a box at the rio ,I don't know the cost of this but all casinos rent safe deposit boxes out ,ask at the cage
Nugget to rio is about 30$ I think to Venetian it's 25$ so a car would be cheaper

I have the perfect answer, (imho) but it isn't going to be in time for you, unless you are rapid. Get VIP Skrill, get a USD debit card and no fee usage. So $1k in Skrill = $1k in your hand (or at point of sale) in LV.
The other pre-loaded cards such as Fairfax etc ~ I don't know as I use Skrill ^^

On the Strip - yes. Downtown under the canopy - yes. 1 block away from downtown - no. 6 miles East _ hell no.

Renting is highly recommended. Getting a cab to pick you up 6 miles off strip is not easy. Several players have pulled their hair out, ordering a cab in time for their day 2 and blinding away with no cab turning up. I have never stayed 6 miles East of strip, but it isn't a great area. All around Boulder Highway etc is pretty bleak. Even if you do get a cab driver to turn up on time, to the Rio and back is going to cost you more for 1 return journey than hiring a car (from a site like carhire3000) per day.

Enjoyed playing at Boulder Station this year, wouldn't like to venture out at night around there tbh.
Echo what Simon G says about car hire. Just so much easier unless you and your housemates want to drink etc after Poker?
If you do end up loads of cash there (Over 10K) or hopefully have loads to bring back remember to declare it on way in and out!

The fairfx card you load up at X via your debit card, and then it's on your card in $ to use.
Simon has answered the rest, or as Tony said get a box at wherever you're going to be doing most of your grinding.

No online reg for any of the downtown comps, I think they've only ujst gotten wifi at the Nugget and still haven't at Binions
I'll be downtown from the 21st until both series finish, so will find out about pre registering there and post here. You can buy in to Venetian competitions from 9pm the evening before I believe, but not sure about Caesars/Aria

We'll probably bump into each other at some point downtown then, I'm easy to spot as there aren't too many young guys on crutches with scooters
The strip is where most of the action is, all the new resorts and fancy restaurants/clubs etc. Dowtown is old Vegas, you can walk from casino to casino easily enough, and probably get around them all in 1/2 an hour. For comparison, it would probably take you 1/2 an hour to walk across the MGM Grand...

What do you mean best places for cash ? Aria. Rio venetian all have a big spread of games at all levels ,Caesars is mainly 1/3 $ mix of tourists locals occasional 2/5 level binions is poor for cash nugget only has 1/2 $ but sometimes it plays big
Most card rooms are busy in June harrahs has a tiny room we wondered in there one Sunday night on way back to planet Hollywood it was mental if you don't like it where you go move till you find somewhere u like its 24/7 weeee

Thanks marky! Oh by the way I got the location of the house wrong....it's 6 miles west of the strip! Doh! I'm guessing that's nicer? In the Spring Valley district. Looks very suburban.

Just a quick question:
ESTA registration.
Do you need to take a copy of this with you for getting through immigration? I'm pretty sure its not required, but was told last night that it is now.
