Fed up of wracking my brains for inspiration of what great music tunes to listen to on youtube - and I'm always sure theres a great tune I've forgotten about. Surely other people have the same problem? I propose members add youtube clip of what they deem to be one of the greatest tunes of all time. Perhaps even a little story about any memories the song evokes.

I'll start us off:

I got outta Iraq for a couple of weeks at the start of Aug 05 and covered a mates job in Qatar. This was awesome as a) I was getting mortared b) I could drink. There were a few bars, but this one night I ended up in the Ozzie bar. Didn't know it but Brits weren't allowed in. Me n my mucker got collared by their Sergeant Major, but basically sweet talked into letting us stay. He was a massive Floyd fan and also well into cricket. They were 1 - 0 up in the Ashes and was loving rubbing our noses in it. For the next week or so our routine was hit the bar early to catch up with the 2nd test (gloating), get smashed then chill into the early hours on sofas in the middle of the desert drinking beers, appreciating Floyd and looking up at the sky :-)

Ive thought about starting a thread like this for ages! Ive always thought that peoples tastes are so diverse it just doesnt work.

BUT.............. i think if people choose 1 song, maybe it does........................... besides you have started it now!

Mine ( and although I dont like the premise of "best song ever" as I believe that music is dependant on mood, surroundings etc), I have often thought if someone asked me could I have this as my favourite song ever, I could see no reason why I wouldnt!

The back story of me finding this song isnt great, so ill leave it out. But lets just saying finding this song changed my life..........................

I know it wont be everyones cup of tea, the band certainly arent mine, but it really is all about the lyrics.

I hope someone finds a song they now love  Smiley

Saw the Flaming Lips in Vegas over the summer. Was epic.

Did you know 'Do You Realize' is the state song of Oklahoma? Cheesy

My pick is this, some of the greatest guitar playing I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely sick percussion work at around 3.30

I like the idea of just one song each.

Epic fail by ManuelsMum unfortunately.

I like your idea of not posting any song or story but just pointing out a slight deviation from plan by someone else. Woo, he posted 3 more songs and no story. Does this reflect your real life persona or do you reserve it for the interwebs, a la keyboard warrior?

Mine:

Classic piece of metal.

First heard when in my late teens. Perfect song for mardy teenagers really. But listened to it regularly since. I just love the song, for some reason. Builds up so well, gets so angry, but it's got a great melody for such a powerful song. The opening guitar solo is superb, then the drums kick in and it builds and builds.

It's also a great test of an audio system; it's got great dynamic range and variety.

There is the official video to this on youtube as well, but it's got some voiceover bits, which suit the video, but I prefer the original.

Sigh, looks like Manuel's post has been deleted. His were the only tunes i liked!

Ridic hard to just choose one song. Have loads of different fav songs to go with different moods. Ranging from Dusty Springfield to Eminem.

Narrowly beating Asher Roth - College, this song gets my mood right now coz its 1 more day til the muva funkin weeeeeekend.

Metallica are headlining a day at Download this year, can't wait, going to be so so good.

My choice

I used to (still am really) a huge Wonderstuff fan, been to see them all over the place. After Never Loved Elvis was realeased,  whenever we used to set off to see gigs, we'd always stick this track on as the first song to see us off.    Great times that seem an age ago now.  Can't remember what we did before this album but always remember setting off to this.  This video for Mission Drive is from the first time I saw it live at Walsall in 1991, I'm in the mosh pit somewhere.

Great choice Rex

I can never decide between about 4 tracks from Nevermind, so I am going with this one and will instantly change mind as soon as I post it. Dave Grohl's drumming is amazing on the whole album.
