would love to know exactly what JB does, it's all very mysterious, he's told me twice and I still don't know.

I have a sort of Spooks image in my head when i try and picture it, nothing would surprise me with John though!

MI-JB?

get f****d! Cheesy

wish I was as cool as English.

You just want the car crash, you're the kinda sicko who watches and records "police, camera, action" and watches the part where they crash over again, right? Tongue

also, just because you get $30,000 atm, doesn't mean you wont get $200,000 year aftr year in 20 years.

[ ] I make £30k basic
[ ] I make £45k when I bust my hump for 20+ weeks a year for 4-8 weeks at a time in a variety of good and bad places all over the world (generally at one extreme of temperature or the other!)
[X] Promotable, been given a bunch of bonuses this year and just got another interview for it.
[X] The reason I'm taking leave in 'chunks' is to try and push myself to spend a week/ weeks at a time trying 'on' the professional poker job and attitude/ lifestyle
[X] its an idea... there are plenty more where that came from - inc degree in engineering, retrading and more

Already told myself I'd no way go pro without at least the following:-

- mortgage paid off (would require one sick year of poker at my current levels)
- one years life expenses in the bank independent of poker roll
- 30+ bi roll for live cash
- playing high enough online (100nl min) to win enough there alone. (not relying on 'live')

I'm absolutely not going to just 'jack it in' by the time I did anything that BIG it would already be 'late'.

When it comes to anything I think is 'big' I always go way over on the preparation and the planning.  Why do you all think I over-think every freaking hand of poker?

also - I should have the option of a sabbatical type affair from my job....

It is an application to go on 'unpaid leave' that is anything between 6months and 4 years, its negotiable with work and I've asked about it.  It's harder to get it granted for me than the main FCO (means diplomats) because my job (electronics) moves quicker and changes more than being a regular officer's duties do.

By that they mean the tech changes and the you need to restudy and sometimes completely retrain but managing people is still managing people, even if they're called 'citizens'/ peons/ civilians or something else different.  Those skills are more 'long term'.

Going to play live tonight before I get my taxi for tomorrows flight... off to somewhere warm and awesome with a regular nightly $1/2 game!

Going to be smashing that game as hard as I can because I've got leave booked for two weeks after it.  Need to pay for the holiday innit!  Played the game before and won $350 first night but did 400 second night when I did a 'JB' and pushed it too far (as usual).

looking forward to my more mature and solid game since then... and more patient, value orientated live poker game! (I'm a bluff them some tho!)

JB - Vegas has to be done but I don't think you would do it properly. If you did Vegas you'd have to treat it as a job! No drinking, no clubbing etc.

Go out at the start of the WSOP if you can. Cash games will be soft as hell and flight/hotel will be cheaper than the end as schools are in. If you pack light then best deals for hotels would be stay on strip during the week and hotels at weekend.

I would say if you can start beating 50nl you can make £20k a year. Its just under £2k a month. So if your grinding 50k hands and winning 10-20bi its doable.

If it was me and I had a mortgage to pay and so on. I would want a 10k roll and 5k tucked away in the bank incase shit hits the fan.

Even then it feels like its cutting it fine.

Infact, even myself. I am in a very comfortable position to potentially go pro again. However even I dont really want to. I am more inclined to find a solid 9-5 that gets the bills paid and play "recreationaly" and treat poker as a side income.

I wouldn't be able to bottle it up in somewhere like that and play for weeks at a time behaving!

I'd have to give myself a day a week to 'blow' and let loose in the evening and have something 'fun' non poker related the next day... even if it was just play tennis at a hotel or something.

But I can definitely do the 'grind' after the last couple of weeks in london, really enjoyed it as well.  The 'challenge' of trying to make every game I'm sat in, as good as it can be - by talking to people, getting to know them... even hitting on a stunning french dealer in The Empire (to be told the supervisor ON SHIFT was her bf... - both took it well)

Its like I'm the only one trying to juice the game up, keep it pleasant, get people involved and calm people down when needed.  Felt great and I think I did a grand job when I was on my game and focused!!

Go pro, live the dream, you only live once, OR, Go steady build your roll slowly with a wage coming in every month, win the sunday million, then quit your job and go Vegas and spend it all on sex, drugs and rock and roll - no brainer really!

Listen to pleno, he seems really helpful, I wish I had someone like that 3 years ago around me, your very lucky imo.
