I wouldn't normally try so hard, but didn't have another opportunity I could wait for. I wasn't ready to surrender what I WANTED SO MUCH, that easily, I couldn't guarantee a call with me staying stoic and relying on a flinch "top pair" calling reflex.

None of the above changes the fact that I didn't take off vs his river bet sizing..

He'd shown down 3 hands where he'd bet massive for value. I should have cshoved river..

Yeah too far to come for a midweek jaunt im afraid.

Played badly today and got suitably punished!  Sigh.
Also - had so few value hands, made it tough to value bet.

Biggest pot I lost, I probably should've bluffed otr instead of check calling.  He bet 1/4 pot and had bet sizing tells of size for strength.
he showed me Q10o on KQ10ddd ....

Beats my K2ss. Was a straddled pot (by me) and I raised to £25 with btn, SB and BB having peels the £5, all called pre.

ffs.

What were his sizing tells for strength? What was the action down the streets? As stated by others, seems like a clear check from the straddle. Other than "same pattern," is there any particular reason you took off here?

I made it £25 over my £5 straddle (dont straddle often but here the spot was too good, passive loose blinds, weak button and tight rest of table).
Because the Kand2 of same pattern will be above average hand strength and they've all been playing so face up that I felt I would get enuough folds from BTN to give me position and initiative in this hand.

meh, he snap peels (got broadways bro) and the other two really reluctantly flick it in.

FLOP

Check, check, I check (easier to get to showdown with this hand now) and btn sigh bets £50 into £100. I clocked this as being 'small' at the time but decided not to take off when both blinds fold.

TURN
(similar mega brick)

I check again and he quickly bets £110, into a pot now of exactly £200.  Prior to this ur had always bet >3/4 for value.  He has about 500 behind and I cover.

RIVER

I check again and he really sheepishly 'drops' 4x £25 chips to make £100. Into a now £420... In retrospect I should be able to literally put him on exactly Q10/ KJ/ K10 and type hands... Which he is obv folding to a cshove.

I didn't take too long to think about it and instead loved my price vs range.

He sighs and shows me Q10 - welcome to valuetown Jonathan!

In my early poker playing days one of the heroes at Riley's Darlington cracked my AA with K2 and said, in the post mortem "I always call with K2 because if you hit one, you always hit again"
The next flop came down K2K and he said "SEE!!"
He turned up at the G recently and, some five years or so later, still holds that belief.

I'd say its not too long before we'll see another needless hand involving a suited 2 making it's way onto the diary.
