do you think either could hit the top 6? (and knock out one of the front six in the betting?)

west ham 3/1
everton 4/1

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/top-6-finish

---

alternatively on the PL handicap

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/premier-league-season-handicap

West Ham/Everton both around +22 at 16-1 paying 4 spots

last season west ham finished 19 points off the top, though 81 points to win it was a low figure. 87,86,89 points won the league the three years prior and you would expect (?) a higher figure than 81 points to be required this year

If we plug in 85 west ham would need to be 63+ to be in the hunt to scoop so thats more or less last season's performance

everton had a poor year, 47 points and would need to improve by about six wins to hit their handicap market

----

beyond that, there are a couple of spots to go at in the top 10

is there really much between southampton at odds on and stoke 2-1 and (say, pick another team if you prefer) Bournemouth at 6/1?

Thanks Rich.

I don't know enough about football to advise, really, but logically, 1 or 2 Teams always surprise.

I agree Everton would need to improve a lot, but Mr Koeman worked miracles at Southampton - twice, because he lost the cream of his squad the season before last, & yet still managed 6th last season.

You need something like 90+ to place in the handicap.   100+ should win it.  Leicester scored something like 120 odd, but was very much an outlier and won by a street.  I'd not pick either of those teams.

Edit prices have gone on Middlesbrough.  Think the handicap is nothing to see.  Move on.  Would rather have Leicester +20 than Everton +22.  Think Koeman is very much priced in.

the case for Everton is straightforward

Koeman will sort the defence out thus picking up some scrappy points when last season they were flaky

everton conceded 39 goals three seasons ago, then 50 and last season 55. there was no organisation in that back four and particularly towards the end of the season it looked like Martinez had lost the dressing room

there's a wealthy new owner which gives them a chance to compete with the league (bar the top few) in transfer windows and steve walsh is a talented spotter of players

i liked ashley williams in for stones (for this team right now, not longer term obviously) and £35m change.

plenty of attacking potential, lots of kids coming through too.

how best to play it not sure. maybe the handicap.

Would not be in a rush to back Everton at this stage.

Koeman going into a club without the structure he has had everywhere else ( well he has it now but takes time) for the first time.

His comments on the fitness levels would worry me as well. Can't see a scenario where they will not be a bigger price in all markets come November

Hello

Quick couple of horses in preparation for york.

I think we should back Nuno Tristan at quarter first 5 with 365 at 10/1.  Got unlucky at goodwood, should still be a worry.  Draw might be wrong, but should be ok from the middle.

Suggest £25 each way with me.

The other is Fendale in the 3.25.  Has been dropping in the weights towards something it can win off.  Now drawn in a probably favourable number 1 draw.  Can get 16/1 4 places with hills if quick.  Both prices beat bf.  Suggest 25 e/w.

Disappointing to note Sky have settled for Geoff Shreeves again this year, when Indian Shreevesy still seems to be available.

You just don't get better than that.

Morning Tighty.

There is a really meaningful rugby league playoff game today when Leigh host Salford. Leigh won the 2nd tier league this season, losing only 1 match. They have thrown money at getting into super league for a few years and have come up just short. If They are to manage it this year then this is a must win game. They have 4 ex Salford players in their ranks and this will be a very fiery game. I make it a much closer game than the 12/5 for Leigh.

Suggest £20 Leigh @ 12/5 with betfred.

Rules fans will enjoy this.

Preseason game between the Superb Owl runners up, the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens last night. The Panthers defense are in trouble but win the ball and run all the way up the other end to score.

The officials have spotted something, though...

The offense had an illegal formation, which doesn't matter because they lost the ball and the Panthers will be happy to have scored.

But they spotted something else...

Carolina Panthers Quarterback and league MVP Cam Newton ran onto the pitch to celebrate the score BEFORE their player actually crossed into the end zone. As a result, the officials ruled out the touchdown.

Whoops!

Dundee poorer than I thought.  I only saw highlights of the game last week but perhaps Ross County are also in for a rough season.
