South Africa to beat England in the 3rd test this week is 19/10 (Boylesports)

Simply an outstanding value price

SA are probably the better team anyway, before you take out Pietersen and replace him with Jonny Bairstow

Bairstow and Taylor at 5 and 6 are both talented but extremely callow at Test Level. SA batting depth dwarves ours

Meanwhile as Piers Morgan takes to the airwaves to defend KP, the South Africans will be wetting themselves with laughter at the disarray they see, while hitting themselves around their faces with biltong to make sure they are not really dreaming

Lords is a bit underprepared, having been offlimits for a fortnight due to Olympic archery, we can't prepare a flat one anyway needing a result to draw the series

I'd put thread's house on it before the price shortens

Thanks Rich.

The devil is in the detail. When Tighty suggests a Max, it is either a stone cold certainty, or he has taken leave of his considerable senses. 4/5 each of two.

We have £150 @ 19/10 with Mr Boyle, South Africa to beat England in the 3rd Test, starting later this week.

£25 fine, just a fun Tuesday night bet this one.

Good news is, Celebrity Big Brother starts on Wednesday.

Tuesday fun bet, we like,plenty.

Celeb Big Bruv, not so much. In fact I'd rather read a page of 'Stars Hand Histories (always followed by the inevitable "marv, how could the idiot call me?") than watch Big Bruv, and that is saying something.

Love the Max bet on South Africa.

Tighty you beat me to it.

England will miss Pietersen and I feel they're gonna rely way too much on Bell and to expect Bairstow/Taylor et al to deliver in a game they have to win is asking for a tad too much.

Price dictates backing South Africa. Im on.

I am not sure if the thread is on for season long bets, I don't like them either. So only placed £10 on this myself.

Tip: Preston to win League One.

Last season saw Preston have a poor season in League One, but now they have come out of the other end and have seen through a patch in the transfer market with Westley. He is renowned for not playing good football, but they have signed some good players by the sounds of it. Also they have just finished playing Huddersfield and by the sounds of it, they outplayed them and beat a higher league, comfortably, all be it in the Careless Cup.Furthermore to this, the favourites (Sheff United) in this league will not win the league, they have signed nobody, lost their best player and got no money.

I would reccomend £10 on @ 12/1 with Bet365. Possibly each way.

Also, I just seen that they are at home to Colchester for their first league game and are 14/15. I think this is also a good bet. I haven't seen much of Colchester in the transfer market to see them going and beating PNE. I am also pretty sure they lost one of their best players to a NPC side a month or so ago.

Here's a link to the contestants. I quite like the Czech Republic. In a betting sense, I mean. Well, also in a non betting sense. Actually I'd be lying if I said I didn't like quite a few of them.

Daily Report as @ 0745, Tuesday August 14th

After 4 straight days without placing a bet, & very little interest or chat, Fred woke up yesterday, & we had 5 pages of chatter & placed two bets, including a Max, who we don't see here very often. Max is scary.

No bets settled yesterday, either, except for some £ neutral Big Brother greening.

We placed a small bet on Swanson to score for Peterborough v Southend tonight. 6 firms offered prices on him to score "Anytime", & the prices were - still are - 5/1, 9/2, 7/2, 0/30, 11/4, & 2/1. Tonight's dinner will therefore be that old favourite, Value Pie.

In a Moment of Madness, Tighty suggested a Max on South Africa to beat England in the 3rd Test @ 19/10. He must have caught me in a funny mood, as I placed the bet. £150, yikes.

After 2 very successful days private punting, I was full of confidence & strongly tempted to make a recommend yesterday on Oldham to beat Sheffield Wednesday last night, the price looked attractive, & it seemed suitably contrarian. In the end, I bottled it & did it myself, off-thread.

My boys were soon 2-0 up & cruising, then Wednesday missed a penalty, & I was sat at home cooing at my amazing punting skills, & cross that I had not recommended it. Oldham then snatched defeat from the jaws of whatsit & managed to lose 4-2. Just when you think you have the game sussed it jumps up & bites you.

I don't really get the max bet here.  The price had already adjusted for Pieterson leaving and Bairstow coming in.  It is the 3rd match in the series so we can see the respective form.  Test stats galore available on most of the players.  SA are fairly strongly favoured in the betting above England (2.94 vs 4 on betfair).  I don't see much of an edge here.

And why is tikay degenning it big time off thread?

Think we need chompy to come in and save the thread with a max on celeb big brother.

What's coming up?

Football is slowly returning, & tonight, the Sky TV Cameras will be at the County Ground, Swindon, where the League One team will host Championship residents Brighton. Worth watching just to see some Paolo Di Canio eccentricities. Outright Odds for the match are here....

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-cup/swindon-v-brighton/winner

In cricket, today's ECB40 fayre is Hampshire Royals v the suffix-less Somerset. I gather their limited overs moniker used to be "Somerset Sabres", but they have pointedly dropped the "Sabres" bit.  That alone almost makes me want to adopt them as my team. Good grief, a County Cricket Team run by grown ups not afraid to swim against the tide.

Finally, in TV-Ville, Greyhound Racing comes tonight from an old poker haunt of mine, Sheffield Owlerton, where I have spent many a happy evening pokering at "Naps" (Napoleons), & being invited to buy second hand suits from the car boot of one B Neville, who also likes to offer up greyhounds.

The feature race in the BetFred sponsored card is the Steel City Cup, & there seems to be a decent supporting card.....

http://www.racingpost.com/greyhounds/card.sd#resultDay=2012-08-14&meetingId=34

Owlerton Stadium is effectively owned by Dave Allen via A & S Leisure. As Tighty would readily know, Mr Allen used to be Chairman of Sheffield Wednesday, who reside just a few hundred yards north along the A61, at the famous Hillsborough Stadium. In fact, there is another connection between Owlerton Stadium & Hillsborough, but you have to guess that.

Hillsborough was known as Owlerton stadium until 1914, I believe

Meanwhile NBC released their Olympic figures. 219.8m viewers, up on Beijing, ad rates up 20% on budget and NBC expects to turn a profit on it.

This despite the controversial decision to tape events rather than show them live.
