Fred has had a bit of interest (financially at least) in the upcoming London Chess Classic.

Our man Magnus Carlsen just won an invitation exhibition comp in Mexico beating another London player Judit Polar in the final.

This is good.

Surely he was expected to win?  Presumably losing to some girl in one of the games is really bad?

Daily Summary as at 1930pm, Monday 26th November

We lost £68 yesterday.

No less than 10 bets completed, all small (7 of which were Test Match sub-markets), 9 bets lost, with bobby1 managing the sole winner, (£50) on NFL, which rescued half of the damage.

Probably best to quietly draw a veil over these matters.

A sad day yesterday, when it was made known that one of the grand Gentleman of football had passed away.

So many memories.

PS - Even Methuselah Minor & Tighty will struggle with some of these blasts from the past.

He was expected to win, but Polgar is renowned as an excellent blindfold player and blindfold is a good indicator of form.

It won't affect the odds but, if we've bet on Usain Bolt we want him to beat Tyson Gay the week before the big race.

Why the picture of Ron Atkinson?

26th November, 2012

Sky Bet go 7/1 that a woman will win the 2013 Sports Personality of the Year award after five were named on the shortlist.

Bradley Wiggins heads the market at 2/5 following his Tour de France and Olympic triumphs, with fellow Olympic heroes Mo Farah (4/1) and Andy Murray (15/2) second and third favourites respectively.

Heptathlon gold medallist Jessica Ennis is rated as the most likely female winner at 8/1 with Ellie Simmonds (66/1), Sarah Storey (200/1) ,Katherine Grainger (200/1) and Nicola Adams (250/1) all considered significant outsiders.

Sky Bet’s Phil Charlton said: “Ennis is the only female we really consider as a realistic contender but it is a far cry from last year, when not a single female was on the list.

“Wiggins has been by far the most popular selection despite being favourite ever since he added Olympic gold to his Tour de France triumph, with his price currently at its shortest to date.

“There were no real surprises with Katherine Grainger the only name on the list which we did not already have in the betting.”

Why the picture of Ron Atkinson?

Dave was ousted from Old Trafford to make way for Big Ron.

There was a certain irony at the Bridge yesterday in that after the solemn preambles to mourn Dave's passing, the "Rafa out" tribes started their refrain. I'm not sure why, but I sensed some correlation.

Thank you. I suspect those chanting noticed nothing bit the sound of their own knuckles dragging on the floor
