Doubt anyone is watching but the IPL game between Chennai and Bangalore just ended in the most ridiculous fashion. Chennai needed two to win off the last ball - bowler bowls in short and wide, batsman edges it to third man, they run, fielder catches it. Bangalore win? No. The bowler has overstepped and bowled a no-ball so they get one for the no ball and one for the single and somehow pull out the win! Chennai win.

Didn't see the game, but saw Tighty's post above...

Doesn't usually seem so obvious!

I have no idea what the Indian authorities do. We know what happens in the UK though after the spot fixing scandal.

very difficult to prove

that last over RP Sngh was bowling to a packed leg side field, Chennai needing 16 off six

Proceeds to bowl it on a length outside off stump, no attempts at yorkers, slower balls, then the last ball no ball which is virtually unprecedented. An 11yo knows the last thing you do is bowl a wide or a no ball there

How much of this is pressure/bad execution or is it bent?

It's a blight on the competition really, such suspicions, but a pretty good reason to keep betting stakes on the IPL pretty low...

find it very ironic that county cricketers seemed up in arms about it

much like the Schlupp comment last night, way too harsh

I'll take County Cricket and undoubtedly a few bad apples over sub-continent cricket for ethics every time

problem is the sums being bet on these games are mindblowing.

Two years wages to bowl a no bowl?

Can think that is difficult to turn down for a lot of people, especially if they are skint.

Jack Lisowski has Qualified for the Crucible

Thread has a ticket at 100-1 iirc

Now for a draw to avoid the top 5-6 seeds, fancy our chances of a run then

Correct, nice one Rich.

We also have Trump, McGill, and Maflin. All present and correct, I assume?

Going to just put this out there.  Lewis Hamilton is 4th favourite for the Formula 1 World Championship.  He is very much one of the most talented drivers.  To my eyes he is better than Raikkonen, and at least the equal of Alonso.  I wouldn't like to guess who would be better of Vettel and him in the same car.

In addition it seems clear to me that his car is getting better.  He is currently 4th in the standings.  He is a bit of Alonso and a bit behind Raikkonen.  A grouchy Mark Webber is 1 point ahead.

I am fairly surprised just how short Alonso is and we already have Vettel.

Think we can risk a stray tenner on Hamilton for the F1 championship, at a general 8/1.  I have had a look at the e/w terms and they look poor, so on the nose it is.

I am sure Neil will tell me he can't be value if they are 8/1 everywhere and I have no defender to that!

General consensus from those in F1 is that Alonso is the best driver no ?

I can't see why the consensus wouldn't be on Vettel.

Schumacher dominated for the post Senna years, and other than Hakkinen I don't think anyone got close.

Then Alonso came along and looked to have everything.  I expect his appearance played some part in Schumacher's first retirement.  I was very impressed with him and thought he was the best new driver for a long time.

Then Hamilton came along and my view of Alonso changed.  Hamilton clearly rattled Alonso with his pace, and Alonso's responses seemed like a lot of sour grapes.   To be beaten so often by somebody new to Formula 1 meant that it was hard to say that he was still the best driver.

Then Vettel has come along and really has got it all.  He seems to have something like the pace of Hamilton, but doesn't have the same self destruct button that Hamilton has (last race excepted).

I think Hamilton is probably the absolute quickest of the three, but also seems to have the most flaws too and clearly hasn't fulfilled the potential we saw in the first season.

I don't think Alonso can be the very best because of what Hamilton did in his first season.  Despite that, I don't really think there is much between the three and we are lucky to have those 3 racing at the same time.

I personally haven't taken to Vettel.  He just doesn't have a personality that I can take to.  But he seems to have the pace and the temperament to dominate.  He just seems crushingly efficient at what he does. I would have expected any consensus to stop at Vettel.

I'd prefer it if either of the other two won though.

Yeah - people put too much credence into "who's the quickest?". It's not a drag race - lack of errors is also a huge factor and Hamilton clearly suffers here.

You are right Keith . the money waged on cricket matches here in India are truly unbelievable. There were a lot of unhappy punters in the card room tonight.

There are not many players who play in IPL who are skint to be fair as the money they make just getting picked for a team ( they do not even have to play ) is very good.

I have made friends with a few IPL players whilst I have been here , including being good friends now with Chris Gayle. I doubt he would ever comment though.  Cheesy

For what it is worth,Shane Warne made money money during IPL then the rest of his career combined.
