Right i have re watched it and read his quotes. He clearly felt that he was taking the option of going back as far in line as possible at the point of entry to the hazard. He seemed to either assume that the point of entry was at the point it crossed the hazard on the way to the green so fine to drop where he did. Or he felt that the ball rebounded in a straight line back towards him, so again fine. However the ball rebounded and went into the hazard to the left as you look to the green.  My understanding of the rules are you drop in line where the ball first crossed the hazard (not entered). So i think he will be fine.

If he didn't sign his card until it gets sorted then he wont be disqualified as long as the rules officials agreed to that which clearly they would have otherwise he would have already been disqualified for not signing his card.

He at worse will have another shot added to his score in agreement with the rules official and then sign or he will be fine.

I still think the rules guy should have been in this quicker and the onus is on the player at the time to ask for a ruling. So if TW is disqualled or given further penalty it is his fault.

Did we miss all the e/w golf bets this morning?  Prices all gone now.

I have laid Woods on Betfair, and not backing him to survive as 4/6 seems awful skinny to me.  Think prices are the wrong way round.  I am a shit golfer if that is a consideration.

The EW bets - no, sorry, got carried away with all the other nonsense. Had to mow the lawn, too, obv.

Other thing to remember before you all get out your pocket rule books, the USGA and the R&A operate different rules. There are also local rules for each course and tournament and furthermore, there are also different rules for pros and amateurs so we need to wait and see what the ruling will be.

I wouldn't like to bet but i do think he will most likely be ok

btw they are quoting a new rule that states that "phoned in" violations will not lead to disqualification - the pga guy said it was introduced after harrington had an incident.

A very unsatisfactory fudge to ensure he stays in the tournament, but rather inevitable I am afraid

What is the right price Tiger at -1 not -3, 5 behind?

Presumably he hardly drifts at all?

Yeah meant would not be dq'd

Interesting in deed.

I think Fred should lump in here, he will just fire it up now and win by 2!

here's a bit about the rule

http://www.usga.org/news/2011/April/Rule-Revised-On-DQ-For-Incorrect-Card/

i still think he should have been disqualified as his error was surely ignorance of the rules?

Its interesting because golf doesn't officially 'use' video technology but they do use it... If that makes sense. There have been a few sticks that have phoned in before to call penalties on players and they have been used. (I.e. moving balls, clipping a twig in a lateral hazard). I think they need to make it clearer on how and when they will use technology to review decisions

He might just do that.

What a story there would be then! "Tiger cheats. Again".

Deffo a book to come out of this.

Oh well, suddenly my friendly fiver on Jason Day at 75/1 three weeks ago looks like extra value.

From what I can see 11/4 has become 5/1.

I would expect 5/1 to be piled into, wouldn't you?

I think it is makes a fairly big difference personally especially given the quality of the players around him.  I would happily lay 5-1 - I think he looks too short now at 13-2 and there is still a chance (albeit smaller than for almost any other player) he walks.
