Years ago when I was in Australia, I met a girl called Fran a couple of times.  I knew she did a bit of horse riding whilst there, but I don't think she made much of it.  It was the days before the internet, but I remembered her face and name.  Funny how things changed, if I met somebody like that now, I'd probably be on google before I got home.  I don't know when we all became potential stalkers?

I couldn't believe it when she showed up a few years later taking charge of Aidan O'Brien's jumps cast offs.  This was her http://www.goracing.ie/HRI/Whats-On/About-Horse-Racing/Profiles/Trainer-Profiles/Frances-Crowley/

It turns out she had just been Irish amateur champion before going out there.  Something I was oblivious to at the time.  Her sister is married to Aidan O'Brien, and she is now married to Pat Smullen.  She met him on the way back from Australia in Dubai.  Her Dad was a trainer too, and I think Fran's sister had taken over some horses from her father, and then Aidan took over before moving to Ballydoyle.  Aidan's father was a trainer too, and of course, one of his son's is a jockey too.

Certainly horse racing/training seems to run in families.

It was really weird, I didn't really believe what I was seeing at the time when I saw her on the telly.

Anyway, I just had a bit of time this morning so decided to work out where we stood with the Premiership handicaps.  I just worked out where the teams were projected to finish by projecting current points and adding the handicaps on.

For those interested, the maths has Hull finishing 6th and Cardiff 8th.   Southampton 106, Arsenal 101, Newcastle 96, Liverpool 96, Everton 94, Hull 93, then a gap to Villa 88 and Cardiff 86.

Of those top 6 are shorter than 10/1 on BetVictor's handicap list.  Looking at the prices, that book must have some overound in it.  Despite this, Newcastle seem to standout at 20/1.   I have looked at their games so far and of the big teams, they have already played Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and the almost big, Tottenham.  So I don't think they have had a particularly soft start to the season.  To me, it seems more likely that Newcastle will be able to continue there mid table form, than the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Southampton will be able to maintain their very good starts.  I think we must have a good chance of at least getting top 3, with an outside chance of picking up first if the frontrunners slow down a bit.

I am sure if we asked somebody completely independent, like Pleno, he'd say this looked a bit of value.  I don't want to be putting loads on as the long run book looks a bit bloated.

Suggest £20 each way, Newcastle on BetVctor's season long Premiership handicap.

I could give it the he's a nice sort, so he is, the best we've ever had blarney with the best of them.

FWIW She shared a house with a girl who was going out with one of the lads in our house, so quite a way from a lucky escape, and a long long way from an inside track to Coolmore.

Done, thank you.

So do we have to cheer on Plinop's beloved Newcastle now? Best team in the Premier League, without a doubt. Full of worldies.

Bit like asking Ant about Palace, that......

Naughty. 17/4 for Palace survival is shouting at me...Definitely couldn't recommend without seeing how Pulis settles in, but the value is hopefully gone by then, ha.

Actually for survival, Palace are 17/4
                              Sunderland are 18/19
                              Fulham 1/2
                              Hull 6/17
                              West Ham 1/9
                              Norwich 4/13
                              Stoke 1/12

I have no idea about value for the market as this is the first time i have come across it really but would it be safe to assume you are normally getting value in these spots when the other prices seem so wrong in comparison? We should not be over 4/1 when the next best is under evens. Make of that what you will. Palace have a resolute defence at the moment, we have broken the goal duck late on in the last match semi threatening all match. Perhaps we look better on the up now.

We haven't conceded in the last two, but in games where we have, the defence loses most of its potential, so if Hull or Everton got just one, Palace may not be getting much plaudits at all of late, as we have looked out of games when chasing.

Can't tell what impact Pulis will have, but if he gets a win against Norwich away then the 17/4 is probably not there. Especially as before the Hull game the price was 7/1, but i thought we were not going to win against Hull, and that price would have remained with more knowledge about how we tick, o well.

I have Palace favourites, definitely for the drop, but by this much? We have Sunderland and Poyet on the same points and a gulf that large? Basically I am asking is this fair?

I have a feeling there is going to be a big gulf in price between Palace and the other contenders even if we get 6 points from our next three, which are actually against fellow candidates Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff.

You have abused me there Tikay, so here is some abuse back with a Palace tip. Not a recommend as such, as I need help with it, but just look at what you have created Cheesy

Yikes, look what I have gone & started now, there'll be reams of this now, for weeks on end, just as there was on "Millen for Manger".

There should be a Palace thread imo, a sort of containment area. Oh, wait......

I've learned my lesson Ant, I'll never mention Palace again. Honest.

Lol. Past all the tomfoolery though, am I missing something. And I am only going to put it up once and shut up from now on!

BTW Bromley are going well at the top of the Skrill South after a win on the weekend, with second place losing. Just to try and give myself some sort of credibility here! Plus Dulwich Hamlet won to be well in with a shout for the league crown, for those on from the season long tip.

If you want to know where the "Millen for Manger" market is, go to Oddschecker -> Sports A-Z -> Nativity
