Looking at to the US Open,

Lee Janzen was the last winner at The Olympic Club in 1998 with a score of Level par.

Now knowing how the Americans like to set up the courses  (long as possible narrow fairways and greens harder than the M5) I would think that betting on the winning Score to be over par should be home and hosed.................ish

As for the winner Going for Justin Rose each way reasonable form at Wentworth and has won in the states this year so has a chance as long as the putter works

Morning Dave.

Just bumped this, to remind me to include it in our little basket of picks.

Hope all is well with you & yours.

What's coming up?

In Bish Bash Bosh, the oh-so-gallingly named Welsh Dragons start their campaign today, weather permitting.

Miami must be due to play again today or tomorrow.

In Euro12, today it is Spain v Ireland, & Italy - Croatia. We have various small interests in those, bits & bobs mostly, the most near to hand being Croatia to qualify from their Group, for which they must be very strong favourites now.  We have £80 @ 7/4, down to Fraser, that's be a nice bink if it holds.

Then there is the small matter of the US Open.....

The Croatia bet is a lot tighter than it looks, the Spain/Italy draw was probably the nut worst result for them tbh.

Obv points on the board blah blah, but I just can't see them beating Italy or Spain. So even if they manage to nick 2 draws the group will be decided on gd. How many Spain/Italy put past the Irish will settle this.

All imo of course and will be rooting for the bet.

I will go first at trying to find you the US Open golf winner. You know all about the course so straight to my tips.

1. Jim Furyk. Very accurate player ( top of accuracy charts this year) and past US Open winner. Playing consistently well this season.

    £10 win 35-1 Paddy Power

2. Matt Kuchar. Finished 18th here in 1998. Had a big win this season at Sawgrass, the unofficial 5th major, and could be ready to
    break  into the big time.

    £10 win 28-1 Paddy Power

3. Graham McDowell. Won the US Open 2 years ago. Not had a good season yet but I think he will like the challenge. I had to
decide between him and Luke Donald but I went for McDowell because of his liking for links golf. I know it is not a links course
but according to 3G's blog your feet and ball position are all over the shop here and that is a big part of links golf.

     £5 ew 80-1 Ladbrokes.

If you want an interesting bet then £10 Zhang to make the cut @ 6-1 with Ladbrokes. He may be Chinese but he lives in California. His sole aim for this tournament will be to make the cut. I am hoping that a lot of players will be disspirited by the course and give in.

Feel free to chose or ignore any of these as I do not want to be the only one offering you tips.

Not sure you have the appetite for another cricket bet, but here goes

The England v West Indies ODIs start on Saturday

A 3 match series

1st ODI: England v West Indies at Southampton
Jun 16, 2012 (10:45 local | 09:45 GMT)
2nd ODI: England v West Indies at The Oval
Jun 19, 2012 (10:45 local | 09:45 GMT)
3rd ODI: England v West Indies at Leeds
Jun 22, 2012 (10:45 local | 09:45 GMT)

Chris Gayle returns to the international arena after 15 months of mutual bottom lip jutting by both him and the selectors. Lendl Simmons is the other notable recall to the ODI team after he missed the home matches against Australia. Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell also come in having been in the IPL

It is thus a different proposition to the test team, which in itself showed more gumption than many of us expected via people in this squad like Samuels, Sammy, Roach and Ramdin. The squad is missing the Test top 3, which looked out of their depth in English conditions

Recent form, WI drew 2-2 in a 4 match series with Australia at home

For England, minus Pietersen, Bell opens with Cook and I worry about their batting strike rate in this format. In theory, the WI outgun them

West Indies best priced 6/5, Eng 8/11

http://www.oddschecker.com/cricket/england-v-west-indies/england-v-west-indies-odis/england-v-west-indies-%5B1st-odi%5D/winner

West Indies are not underdogs to my mind in this format, and should be backed at odds against.

Rich,

What, no geography lesson, weather map, political summing up?

I'll sort that WI ODI bet later, thank you, need to get the US Open sorted first, then go do some stuff elsewhere.....

I'm liking "mutual bottom lip jutting" though, not that I can recall ever seeing such a thing.

I agree the group is tighter than it looks but totally but disagree with your comment about the draw being the nut worst result as the draw only registered 2 points as opposed to 3  shared between Italy and Spain........There is still a lot of football to play and history dictates that where there is 3 points on the board after 1 game versus a draw that team normally qualifies + I think Ireland still have something to say in the outcome of the group.

US Open.

I have some time issues this morning, so I've worked through the thread, & have done the following.

There have been no strong views for much, really, but even though we are not setting the world on fire, long odds golf bets are huge fun, give us - I hope - some  thread fun, & might yield, now & then, a rich harvest. They are, given the variance, all banzai's, to a greater or lesser degree.

Here's the book, then. All bets can be proofed if need be, but I don't have time to C & P everything right now.

Tiger Woods, £25 Win, Paddy Power, Methuselah.

Nicholas Colsaerts, £5 @ 220, Betfair, hector. Hopefully, if he excels, we might get some creative updates. He seems a bit starry-eyed, & out of his depth really, but over £1k for a fiver seemed irresistible, & 3G is a bit of a thread favourite.

Justin Rose, £10 @ 28/1, Corals, "Hawk". Decent shot, this, thanks Dave.

Jim Furyk, £5 @ 33/1, Ladbrokes, hector. Worth it just to focus on his swing. He's been around so long, too, or seemingly. Always looks odd when he takes his cap off to reveal that bald pate.

Matt Kuchar, £10 @ 28/1, Paddy Power, hector. No idea about this, but I enjoy watching this fella.

Graham McDowell, £5 EW @ 80/1, Ladbrokes, hector. I don't really take to Graham much, but at 80/1, if he could reignite his spark, he'd be terrific value.

Zhang to make cut, £10 @ 6/1, Ladbrokes, hector. I'm not sure he has much chance, but it'd be neat to see the kid do well.

Padraig Harrington, £10 @ 80/1, BWin, Methuselah. I'll put this down to me if Ralph demurs, as it was not a "Tip 4 tikay", it was on the Golf Thread, but Padraig is worth a wager I think, and he has the pedigree, without a shadow of doubt, & he'll win big again soon.

There we go, £85 going up in flames probably, but we could have a lot of fun with those lads, & you never know......

That's called efficiency.

Excellent, & very teutonic.

Awesome stat Rich, thanks.

Tony...have a £10 tickle on Nick Watney too at 150 on betfair as there are 4 of us on the golf thread that have backed him

Fraser, I'll meet you half way, as the price has dropped a tad.

US Open, Nick Watney, £5 @ 140, Betfair, Fraser.

ON

That's it, no more please, the "Daft Budget" for the US Open has now been spent, any more will need to meet the thread criteria.

Thanks everyone, & good luck us.
