This is my first appearance in this thread for a few weeks, but fancy TEAM GB v Senegal tomorrow. According to the BBC, Senegal are missing quite a few players in the team, so more factors to get on GB to win?

I have seen price on WH and it's 4/7. Not sure if price is that good, but would be confident of return in this.

Thank you very much Aaron, & welcome back, but I fancy we will need more justification than "I fancy".

Anyone able to chip in with views on this bet? I know nothing of the team's qualities, past record, form, opposition, anything really, so we'll need some references & facty stuff.

Listening to Talksport this morning, they have a bookie on giving odds on a few of the days sporting events. I am guessing it also serves as an advert for their company but the fella on today said the England price looked to short!

Basically the price is pretty pants I think. If the price is on the short side, is there value in a lay?

Not enough knowledge on Senegal here, I am afraid

England 4/7? Where's the value?

I have a hint of some inside knowledge on who will be lighting the Olympic Cauldron, from a journalist friend seconded to the Olympics from BBC Local radio

The dress rehearsal was last night, and the Danny Boyle ceremony is said to be good, funny, inventive

Mate tweeted this

PP had a market up

http://www.oddschecker.com/olympics/specials/olympic-specials/to-light-olympic-flame

this seems to have disappeared?

thread banzai on hold. I even know how the flame is lit.

Thanks Rich.

I absolutely do NOT want to discourage Aaron, but I'm struggling to think of ANY occasion, ever, when we could back an England Football team @ 4/7 with any confidence. Senegal's "Pro" National Team are pretty good, certainly by African standards, & there are no shortage of decent Senegalese players.

If it helps, there are over 700 species of birds in Senegal, including Helmetshrikes & the Senegal Thick Knee. Oh, & Senegal & neighbouring The Gambia often have wars with each other.

Tony was it Gavin Christie that you went to for lessons at Kedlestone Park?

Gavin is now a top coach and helps quite a few well-known pros including Roger Chapman who has recently won back-to-back senior "majors" over in the USA.

No, I don't believe it was, Ralph, it may have been before him. It would have been around 12 to 15 years ago, as I recall. I'll try & think of his name.

I well remember being amazed at how easily he swung the cluib, & how he could shape shots at will. He used to do this thing where he would swing the club using only one arm - left or right - & he could shape the ball either way using either arm. There was a net on the Range @ 150 yards, & he could plonk the ball in it 9 times out of 10 using one arm!

Shame he was unable to teach me any golf skills, but I was just hopeless, I have no hand-eye co-ordination whatsoever.

I assume you have played Kedleston a few times? Lovely bunkers. And a lake.

Robert Kirkland was Captain there one year, but it all ended in tears, when Sheila Kirkland (John's wife) was turned down for Ladies Captaincy. Mrs K was not best pleased, to put it mildly.......

You do realise that is crazy talk?   England would be way shorter than 4/ 7 home against San Marino obv.  I have no idea about the merits of Senegal under 23s though.  Having seen youngsters playing football in Africa expect they'll play 0-0-10.  The cameroon ladies were smashed 5-0 by brazil yesterday.  Never saw it so don't know if they were playing the 0-0-10 formation.

I am not even sure if it was 90 mins or DNB.  Happier to throw it out for that rather than anything else.

Can't believe there was no picture of the Senegal Thick Knee though. I am more disappointed in that to be honest.

I have played Kedlestone a few times Tony, a couple of good friends of mine are members. It's similar in a way to my course Wollaton Park in that it's leased from the council and lies within the grounds of a stately home. Kedlestone plays a little tougher than Wollaton but both are decent tests.

The first time I played it was about fifteen years ago and one of my playing partners was Kenny Burns, ex Nottingham Forest captain under Clough, who was entertaining company and a very decent player, five or six handicap.

Senegal beat Spain a couple of weeks ago. Not sure the strength of the Spanish team but a win is a win nevertheless.   This was the Olympic teams.

I don't see 4/7 as value.  Apart from anything, this is Team GB.  We'll probably win 1-0 scoring in the 80th minute.

Oh, & here's the Senegalese Thick Knee.

And here's the rather sly-looking one legged kneed version.

Quick research.

As well as the Spain friendly game, the qualification record didn't look great.  The vast majority play overseas, including one at west ham and one at everton.  Unlikely to play 0-0-10.  Probably better than San Marino.  1.7 on betfair in 90 mins.  Doesn't stand out.

What's coming up?

The World Matchplay Darts, from that splendid venue, continues this evening, & will be on Sky Sports..

I've played in a chess tournament a number of times at the Winter Gardens, in the same hall as the arrow-flingers.  Not been for a few years but there was a big money (by amateur chess standards!) comp there every March for players from recreational club players to Grandmasters.

Wonderful venue, compared to the array of school halls and leisure centres the chess circuit has to offer.

Oddly used to coincide with the annual convention of the George Formby Society, so the foyer was full of ukelele-accompanied chess-chat. I'm sure the locals have seen worse.Jim Davidson probably.
