Golf Canadian open.
This is a fairly weak field and a lot of them will be tired after a trek over for the Open. A bet that I like the look of this week is Seung Yul Noh to finish in the top 20. Since the middle of April he has become ultra consistent making 11 cuts in a row with 6 of them in the top 20. In recent tournaments he has had 4 out of the last 5 in the top 20. He had a week off last week and will see this tournament as a great opportunity. Apart from his form that he has shown a great reason to back him is that previously, in the golfing thread, he was referred to by Karabiner by the moniker Doctor Noh, which appealed to me muchly.
So Doctor Noh to finish top 20 @ 15/8 Paddy Power £20.

Well, I'd just like to say that it's been a blast.
While I've been standing in, we have placed 86 bets based on tips from 32 different people over 38 days.
We had 31 winners and 48 losers with 7 bets still outstanding.
We placed £3,135.50 of bets for a profit of
£267.50
with a nett ROI of 8.5%.
Thanks for all the support and assistance during my tenure; it's been great fun.
Now we can get back to normal.
You will have already noticed that the daily reports contain far more colour than I ever managed with my rather terse style.
It's good to have tikay back in charge in so many ways.

Stanley @Golf_Stats
Average length of par-3s > 200 yds, but on both occasions Hamilton has hosted Canadian Open recently, there has been at least 1 hole-in-one.
Bet Victor & Paddy Power 11/10 for a hole in one.

A question.
There was a good deal of interest in Ben Curtis last week for The Open (please note, Phil, we do not call it "The British Open....), but he was never off, & we did our money disappointingly.
Can anyone make a case for him in the Canadian Open @ 66/1, based on the bounce back theory?
Be a bit like poker's flop-lag if he played well this week.
yes, i've had a little on myself but only v small.

Enough with the chirping, or you'll be reinstated.

One for the geeks..
Over the last, say, 10 years what is the amount of top 4 finishers in the PGA event which is held the week after the Open who played in the UK. (I guess you'll need a % of the field you played in the UK too to make is relevant).

Good morning Hector.
It is Yes to Doctor Noh.
Like that, seems to be low-variance, too.
Lol @ "Doctor Noh", too.
As it is so nitty, I don't think we need wait for further views or references in this case, so we are on.
Hope you don't mind, but in celebration of something - not decided what yet - I am upping the stake to £40.
£40 @ 15/8 with Paddy Power, Doctor Noh to finish in the Top 20, Canadian Open.

Thanks Sandy.
Somehow, it seems more natural to back NO hole in ones, but based on those stats, lets do this.
£50 @ 11/10 (Paddy Power) that there WILL be a Hi1 @ Canadian Open.
That's it, all done, the Event starts in 30 minutes, good luck all.

What's coming up?
The World Matchplay Darts, from that splendid venue, continues this evening, & will be on Sky Sports..
I've played in a chess tournament a number of times at the Winter Gardens, in the same hall as the arrow-flingers. Not been for a few years but there was a big money (by amateur chess standards!) comp there every March for players from recreational club players to Grandmasters.
Wonderful venue, compared to the array of school halls and leisure centres the chess circuit has to offer.
Oddly used to coincide with the annual convention of the George Formby Society, so the foyer was full of ukelele-accompanied chess-chat. I'm sure the locals have seen worse.Jim Davidson probably.
I would like to think that be it Chess, Geo Formby, or even Jim Davidson, the audience were a little more refined that they seemed to be at the Darts last night. Please don't ever tell them that Golf exists as a spectator sport.

Stanley @Golf_Stats
@Sandybhoy777 Proportion of top-4 finishers who had played in Open: 2011 - 2/5; 2010 - 3/12; 2009 - 2/4; 2009 - 1/4; 2007 - 2/4.
Stanley @Golf_Stats
@Sandybhoy777 I have those years to hand. Would need to research it for the other years, but would be in a few hours' time.

I have a hint of some inside knowledge on who will be lighting the Olympic Cauldron, from a journalist friend seconded to the Olympics from BBC Local radio
The dress rehearsal was last night, and the Danny Boyle ceremony is said to be good, funny, inventive

Seb Coe? Oh please let that be true! Imagine the commentary:
"And here comes Lord Coe, the man behind the London Olympics, to light the flame. As he does so, the track is openingto reveal a fifty foot hand, rising from the ground displaying Lord Coe's gift: two enormous fingers to the world."

I mean, it's not going to be Roger Banister, is it?
He's no Muhammad Ali is he?
Wouldn't be at all surprised if whoever lit the flame in the rehearsal didn't do it on the night.
