Daily Report, as @ 07:40 Thursday July 26th

My first day back in the saddle, & it did not go well, financially, though plenty of humour in the thread, real quality stuff, as well as a fun mood, so that was the positive.

We had a Sighmuns wager in the Darts on the "Taylor Effect", which is an oddity. Taylor batters everyone, & so his opponents never get to shoot at the doubles, which means their 3 dart averages are not adversely affected by missed doubles. Hence Taylor's opponents usually have artificially high 3 dart averages, as they are always chasing. Yesterday, even though he won 13-3, Taylor was not battering, he was almost like a mere mortal, his averages were low, & our own man was getting shots galore at doubles. And missing them. We were never at the races, & lost £60 there, but over time it is a +ev bet, so can't complain I guess.

In Seniors Golf, we had a mini Banzai from Karabiner on Wesselingh in the Seniors Open, £10 EW @ 100/1.

After Day One, he is 1 under, with the leader, one B Langer, at -6. Quite tightly bunched, with 15 players between -6 & -2, so our man is in perfectly fine shape so far, & he tees off @ 10am today.  The Leaderboard is here....

http://www.europeantour.com/seniortour/season=2012/tournamentid=2012860/leaderboard/index.html

hector chipped in with a solid "Top 20" suggestion for the Canadian Open, Seung-Yul Noh, aka Doctor Noh. This guy makes Top 20's for fun, & he is tucked in just behind the leaders. "Just behind" in this case equates to 10 shots & 112 places off the lead. He needs to do some serious grinding today to even make the weekend. These things happen. He tees off at 12.20 (local) today.

The leaderboard is here.

Sandy gave us a bet that there WOULD be a Hole In One at the Canadian Open. I have no idea how to check this, but as far as I can see, we have yet to see one.

Finally, in the Rennies column, we invested £60 in tonight's Darts, being over 10.5 x 180's in the Van Gerwen-Wade match.

As in poker, in punting we can win by folding, or not betting, too, so I was pleased to swerve a recommend on GB to beat Senegal in the Olympics Football thing, which unsurprisingly ended 1-1. I was not even tempted @ 4/7, & it proved to be a good swerve.

What's coming up?

In golf, the Seniors Open, & Canadian Open, both move into Day Two, & both have (intermittent) TV coverage on Sky Sports.

Darts continues, too, again on Sky Sports, & we already have a little interest in tonight's action, with, perhaps, more to come.

Note that the afternoon session of the Darts will be covered live on TV today from 1pm, as well as the usual evening session.

Not sure I'll manage that, the commentators last night were a little ott with the shouty-wouty stuff for my personal taste, though I'm sure it works for the target audience.

I believe the 2012 Olympics begin "proper" today, with the Opening Ceremony this evening. I think I have been alive for about 16 Olympics, but I've yet to watch an Opening Ceremony, & don't expect that weird stat to change tonight. Whatever turns you on & all that. As an Olympic oddity, I am effectively imprisoned in my home from 4am until late Evening both Saturday & Sunday this weekend, as the Cycle Races go past my front door & the road will be closed to the public. I'm arguing with myself as to whether I should walk the 50 yards to the roadside to take some blurry photos. Probably not. Please don't shout at me, but I'd rather read a good book, or tend the allotment.

Finally, there is Live Cricket on Sky Sports today, too, in something excitingly named ECB40.

The fixture is Holland v Gloucestershire.

Heaven only knows what dear old Brian Statham would think of "ECB40" & Holland playing Gloucestershire at cricket.

And if you don't remember who Brian Statham was, well you should be ashamed of yourselves. Proper cricketer, from the days when Cricket was played properly, & folks took pride in their appearance. You don't see hair like that these days.

Talking of cricketers hair, I doubt many of you will remember this chap - though I'll have an even fiver that Ralphy boy does.

What you have to guess is why Ralph will know who it is.......

PS - Even Tighty won't get this.

I thought the Uae football team looked a cracking lil side against Uraguay, surely 7/1 in most places to beat a ponderous looking GB is too big??

Thanks Judge.

I know nothing of Olympic football, but 7/1 in any football match usually reps value imo. Let's wait & seee what the experts say, but if we get some encouragement, we might just do a dabble.

any ideas on White's average?
88.78, Taylors 91.71

Where do you get those stats from, please?

I was furiously scribbling with pencil & paper last night to keep a running average.

I blame Mere for being AWOL, which was quite unacceptable.

Enough of thse crazy Big Bro prices, the market is wrong imo. Deana shouldn't be favourite, let alone 2.6 on Betty.

Lay £100 @ 2.6 ta. She's boring and I'd put the three behind her in the betting ahead of her, so the lay seems the play in a weird year.

Can someone translate that for me, please?

I note some more comment on SPOTY & Wiggins.

I'm afraid I am not really across either of these markets, & both have been thrashed to death on here, so I'll need a lot of convincing to invest further in either.

Please don't think I'm ungrateful for the recommends & comment, keep them coming, but I just don't have a feel for SPOTY or Cycling.

Lovely Sandy, thanks.

Whilst I have your attention, how do I check for Holes in One at the Canadian Open, please?

Deana is favourite to win Big Brother.
She can currently be laid @ 2.68 (was 2.6) on Betfair.
There are three other people (presumably Luke, Adam and Sara) at bigger odds that Chompy, presumably, believes have a better chance to win.
He is recommending that you lay Deana on Betfair because he believes she will not win and you will win money.

He wants me to lay a young lady? Are you sure?

PS - seriously, I need help on that one.

Is it a good lay, good price, value, all that stuff? I have no idea, but I'm not punting blind.

Olympic Fact of the Day

Today, Toxiphily

The maximum permitted draw weight on competition bow in Archery is 80 lb. Draw weight of long bow at time of Agincourt: 120 lb plus.

The archery of course is on the Lords outfield, complete with temporary stands, removed in time for the third cricket test at the end of the month

There is no truth to the rumour that archers firing from the Pavilion end need to aim a fraction to the left to allow for the famous Lords slope
