Talking of cricketers hair, I doubt many of you will remember this chap - though I'll have an even fiver that Ralphy boy does.
What you have to guess is why Ralph will know who it is.......
PS - Even Tighty won't get this.

Tonji knows, Mere knows, Tighty is strangely quiet on the matter......

Dennis Compton, right?
The name carries on in County Cricket to this day, via Somerset's Nick Compton, Dennis' Grandson

Olympic Fact of the Day
Today, Toxiphily
The maximum permitted draw weight on competition bow in Archery is 80 lb. Draw weight of long bow at time of Agincourt: 120 lb plus.
The archery of course is on the Lords outfield, complete with temporary stands, removed in time for the third cricket test at the end of the month
There is no truth to the rumour that archers firing from the Pavilion end need to aim a fraction to the left to allow for the famous Lords slope
Too good, wp.

I never knew that - good spot, & rather pleasing.
Does he play for Arsenal as well?

Sadly the days of dual football/cricket pros are past
Chris Balderstone, Graham Cross, Jim Cumbes..the names roll off the tongue.
None to the standard of Mr Compton though, I gather
Here's Dennis, after a particularly painful LBW decision at Highbury

UAE are 9-1 to beat Team GB in the football on Sunday
To add to what was mentioned earlier
DNB price could be very tasty
UAE didn't look like 9-1 shots against anyone, from watching them against the Montevideo Massive yesterday

Ahh, back to Tips. Probably just as well, we were getting a bit off topic with all this talk of 50's cricketers & stuff, & I sense the Elders will be getting tetchy. I blame Mere.

thank you
I throw 9-1 and 11-2 DNB out for consideration for a modest banzai
After Senegal's "tackling" last night, its a wonder our brave GB Boys will be able to walk. No wonder the Senegalese need thick knees

To briefly get back to the subject of Dennis Compton.
He didn't just play football for Arsenal but also won a dozen caps for England during the war.

Yes!
Knew you would not let me down, Ralph.
Dio you have a Denis Compton duvet cover? I'm sure Jeeves told me you did.

While senegal's players mostly played overseas, UAEs mostly play at home. I guess there are cash reasons for this , but still can't help feeling they are going to be rubbish. And despite Senegal playing mostly overseas they wet mostly rubbish too. Lucky, but rubbish.
I have taken the unthread like odds of 1.42 team GB odds on betfair. Now I just need to convince myself Stuart Pearce is a tactical genius. Just a couple of steps from completely delusional.
I didn't see the other UAE game so my opinion isn't worth much.

How can you take 1.42 GB without at least looking at highlights of the UAE game yesterday, available on IPlayer?
UAE took the lead against Uruguay, and lost 2-1
No pushovers
Team GB meanwhile have played Brazil and Senegal in two games, one competitve one not
10 shots for, 42 against.
GB should win, UAE are not 9-1 shots. in my opinion
