Read an interesting piece on the 200m individual medley betting, where Phelps and Lochte are thought to be very close to equal. The way the schedule has been worked out, Lochte is set to be swimming in the 200m backstroke final just half an hour before the medley, so the 10/11 on Phelps looks very generous.

Lochte beat Phelps to win the world title last year so has previous, but the schedule is bang against him here. Phelps, needless to say, is the greatest ever Olympian, with 14 gold medals so far #form

Ta Jeff.

I think this takes place @ 10am today, though I'm not certain.

Anyway, let's get the Olympics started, & go with Phelps.

We have £55 with Ladbrokes @ 10/11, Phelps to win 200m Individual Medley Gold.

some really poor pitching by our pitcher has led to us losing 5-0 after 2 innings
he had two people out, then walked someone, got hit for a single and then hit someone with a pitch Sad

but still 7 innings to go, so still a glimmer of hope

I can't see this one causing any controversy.

About time we had a tip for the happiest member of team GB and firmest supporter of the Union.

The tip is for the South East's finest tennis player, Andy Murray to beat Novac Djokovic in the semi final of the Olympic tennis tournament.

I have seen precisely one of Djoko's maches this week and he looked a little out of sorts losing to some Italian or other, he then lost a set to an ageing Australian.  He appears to have played better in a couple of matches, but that doesn't support my argument, so we will gloss over them.

By contrast the Nation's beloved Pitt Bull has only struggled in the one match

I had a look at the stats for tighty and they looked good, though I can't bring myself to explain how his 2nd serve has improved using stats going back 5 seasons.

In addition, he doesn't have that great big stinking grand slam monkey on his back in this tournament and he looks just the type to be lifted by the sight of some two bit member of the Royal Family supporting him courtside.

You can lay Djoko at 1.52 on betfair, which looks the way to go.

Do it for Queen, country and tikay's thread Andy, let's bring the Nation together in one happy snarlathon.

Irish Derby news: Tyrur Big Mike wins its heat tonight, in what looks like the fastest time of the opening round thus far. Cut to 9/1 on Betfair I believe.

Daily Report, as @ 07.15, Friday August 3rd

Two completed bets yesterday, one winner (profit £50) & one loser (loss £50) left us all square on the day, so we are still in red territory for August.

The loser, for once, came from Singheee, who put up another Baseball bet, which not only lost, but it lost properly - 9-1! Fred is gonna blame a female linesman, we like a bit of delusion now & then. No need to explain it Singheee, these things happen.

The winner? No less than Basketball Corry Jaffa Cake, Lord Kimber no less, who gave us Phelps to win Gold, breaking Fred's Olympic duck in the process. Well done Jeff. Thanks Jeff.

In other Olympic betting news, we have GB to finish 3rd or better in the Medal Table, for which the last rites were being delivered only 24 hours ago, but suddenly a pulse has been detected, & its life continues for a while yet.

In Golf, we have two hector reps in the Bridgestone Invitational, being Ricky Fowler & Hunter Mahan. Fowler is Level Par, Mahan on +3, with the leader (Furyk) at -7, & the pack mainly between -1 & -3.

It is a short field, so I have no idea how the cut works, if indeed there is a cut, as only 77 players started. We need both to have a good day today really.

Leaderboard is here....

http://www.worldgolfchampionships.com/leaderboards/current/r476/index.html

Finally, scotty gave us three long-priced dogs for the Irish Derby, one of which lost earlier this week, but yesterday another of the trio, Tyrur Big Mike won its heat. He is now 10/1 on Betfair - we are on at 50/1. Nice work!

What's coming up?

The Olympics hots up today, with the Track & Field commencing. We still have a £inancial interest in Basketball, Handball, Boxing, & of course the Medal Table.

The Golf continues until Sunday.

Rugby League, too, Wigan Warriors v Hull FC. Wigan are unbackable at 1/6, quite right too, as they have a proper silly name - 'Warriors - whilst Hull are simply Hull. Ridic, met.

Day Two of the 2nd Test at Headingley. We were all over the shop yesterday morning, dithering & bumbling this way & that, but when England won the toss & then intriguingly stuck the other lot in, Tighty's head exploded, & all bets were off.

ALL BETS ARE ....OFF.

An interesting sidebar from yesterday's Golf.

The course is immaculate, the fairways like a regular Club greens, the sun has been shining for weeks, it is blisteringly hot, & so it is playing fast. Even super fast.

Yesterday, there were 58 drives recorded at over 350 yards, jeez, the game has changed, but topping the lot was a monster 427 yard drive by Branden Grace.

427 yards!

The hole was the Par 5 649 yard 16th, & that tee-shot left him a mere 222 yards to the pin. Fearing he was now between clubs, he then went....wedge wedge! The end result was a par.

Is the rowing draw random, seeded, or do the top qualifiers get to choose their lane?

I understood from R5Live yesterday that there is an option of a "preferred draw" available, but that Team GB opted not to invoke that option, on the grounds that it may infer that the course - the British course - was unfair.

I probably got that round my neck, but I'm sure that was the gist of it.

Tighty should know, he is our rowing Corry.

Talking of rowers & sculls & stuff, did you know that Sky Poker's Thewy (ooh, apam alert) used to do that to a very high standard, he was a white water rafter bloke, & he "paddled" (that's the term boys, listen up) at International level all over Europe? Yup, & that explains why he has such huge hands. It also explains how he came to live in Nottingham after moving from Dublin - he wanted to be near the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont.

There you go, I can outbore even Mere & Tighty.

Ahh, thanks.

We need to look out for Whittle Murtag & Lenson Champ, then.

I think Nole will win gold

Can you, err, expand upon that a tad?

Who is Nole, & what exactly does he do rather well?

Morning Doobsy.

I'm not very good with Betty, & I need a little help with that, or I will ask Mere to do it for me.

How much are you suggesting we should lay?

Also, I'll be Offline most of the day, will the bet need "managing"? You know, greening out & stuff?

No greening needed.

The bet has a 2 way outcome so laying djoko is effectively the same as backing Murray.  The best effective price was laying djoko.  The same holds true this morning.  So if you lay djoko at 1.54 you effectively get a better price (2.85 vs 2.84).  Laying for a hundred is the same as backing for about £50.  I think that is the right size
