It is arc trials today.  Building up for the arc proper, where thread's favourite racehorse, Danedream, will be on show.   I am guessing the japanese horse wins the prix foy and moonlight cloud wins the moulin.

I am a big fan of Shareta in the prix vermeille at longchamp.  Ties up with the Danedream form, and think Galikova is a bit overated.  Best price is 9/2.  Any thoughts, horseplayer? Anyone?

Re: Reading v Spurs

Spurs play man united next week and the prospect of playing them without a league win is not worth thinking about.

The fans enjoyed the way we played over the past few seasons and attacking today is a must, lest AVB begins to hear more than murmurs of discontent.

2 defensive midfielders would be highly unlikely and I can see Dembele or Dempsey with a first start.

Evens away is stingy.

I have taken an advertised bet with William Hill: Bale to score at any time and Spurs to win 7/1.

Bale scored a stunning free kick in the week for Wales, so I'm hoping he carries that form through.

We have a reasonable record (tiny sample size) against reading but we always do better when we go for the throat. The pressure of the situation is likely to force us into playing that way, which is why I like this bet.

Whether this is a Fred bet is questionable, as I can't satisfy the BadBeat Model. We shall see anyway.

I want to back reading because i think AVB is a poor manager (way to cautious) but then i look at the spurs team and its so good it puts me off backing against them. AVB will prob find a reason to not put his best team out because he's like that.

His best available team is obvious imo -
Friedel
Assou-Ekoto
Gallas
Walker
Vertonghen
Dembele
Bale
Sigurdsson
Dempsey
Sandro
Adebayor

i bet there will be 4/5 differences from that team because he's trying to be too clever, play your best team ffs.

The one that got away.....

Tighty Posted this yesterday morning.....

Norwich v West Ham Draw at 23-10

Five of the last six league meetings between Norwich and West Ham have ended as draws.

West Ham have won none of their last 14 league trips to Carrow Road (W0 D 6 L8).

The Canaries have won just one of their last eight Premier League games (W1 D 3 L4), but have lost just one of the last five (W1 D 3 L1).

http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/norwich-v-west-ham/winner

I have the draw as more likely than a Hammers win, personally, yet the prices suggest the opposite

Throwing it open for discussion....

On that Reading - Spurs game, BBC Sport report that.....

•Tottenham have won just one of their last 11 Premier League away games.
•Andre Villas Boas has won only three of his last 15 Premier League games.

Another curiously geeky stat is that Friedel is 6 years older than his Manager.

I would not even dare to suggest I have a deep understanding of football, but my gut instincts tell me that AVB will never succeed in British football. There you go, throw that one back at me when Spurs finish Top Three this season.

Sigurdssen, Dembele and Dempsey is too much IMO. Fans would much prefer Defoe for one of those, probably Sigurdssen. Closer to a 4-4-2.

Debatable really; Van der Vaart behind Crouch was a completely different situation. Adebayor drifts wide a lot and sigurdssen is more a midfielder than a number 10.

Fans want 4-4-2 with JD

Catriona Matthew improved her position by 25 places into a tie for 17th with a third round 71(-1).

Now if she can just improve another 25 spots in the final round...

Today is interesting. The UK racing is very bad, there is only one premier game, the rugby league is tonight and there is no grand prix.

That means that there will be much more emphasis on Reading vs Spurs than there ever would be if this game was at 3pm Saturday.

This extra emphasis is not going to be from professional bettors and the big syndicates (ie the people we don't want to oppose).

This extra emphasis is going to be from recreational punters (ie the people we do want to oppose).

I am leaning towards laying Spurs. I like home dogs, I like to oppose away evs and under teams that aren't the top three. I like to play unfashionable provincial teams against popular London teams. I like laying Spurs generally.

I would expect the public to bet over and Spurs so I'm waiting until nearer the time.

Would anyone put me off and does anyone have a guess at the best way to play my opinion?
