We were plum last entering the final turn, then came through a treat, but the winner had long got away by then. Would have been quite something if we had got that bugger home.

a horse with breeding that would not win a southwell banded race wins the turf

even more amazing after a long and good career changes tactics and wins

Little Mike wins the Breeder's Cup Turf 1M4f race for a winner's purse of £1,161,290.32

The sire was an unraced stallion, the stud fee was $5k and the brood-mare a "gift from a friend".

How about that for a story?

I won't forget about 'Little Mike' for a while, my old man was on it and he also had Trinniberg too for the same reason.

He said the discrepancy in prices between the US  and Betfair, horses that are 10/1 there are massive prices on Betfair and obviously that worked out ok for him Cheesy

Is there any reason for this, or is it always the case with the big US meetings and Betfair just goes from the UK prices?

US prices are basically just their tote.

If your dad likes price discrepancies Animal Kingdom is 6/1 in the US but 20/1 0n BF.

not really no

trinniberg wasnt that much bigger on betfair anyway

little mike reasoning? it looked to have almost zero chance beforehand

in the next animal kingdom is 20-1 odd on betfair and 6-1 on the tote presumably because it is or was a high profile horse over there 20-1 reflects its chance better than 6-1 ever does

Yeah, he was comparing with the US markets which I guessed was for the reason you said and that they weren't too different in comparison with ours.

He bet Little Mike because it was 40.0 on Betfair and I'm guessing because he's called Mike too Cheesy

I see them talking about Animal Kingdom because it won the Kentucky Derby.

Well the biggest reason for the huge differences is that Betfair has zero margin on their prices and the US prices are betting to a 20%+ margin.  Add in a bit of local bias and it becomes very noticeable but  horses that are 33/1 with the bookies here go off at 100/1+ on Betfair everyday.

Yes of course, I was mostly struggling with the horses 10/1 there, 25/1 with our bookies and in turn they will obviously be longer again with Betfair.

Betfair as you said we see every day and is nothing unusual, it's the first time I've ever followed any US betting, so I just found it a little strange and that all makes perfect sense.

Shame I've just been railing for interest, as it's been a profitable Breeders' Crup for Blonde thanks to Horsey and I get to listen to my old man gloating too Smiley
