For the Darts fans, there is an (allegedly) "ENHANCED OFFER" on tonights Premier League renewal from Boylesports.

They are offering 9/4 on the golden triumverate of Barney, MvG & Mr Taylor.

I'm not interested in any Trebs or Accas personally, & I'm not fussed if we don't have any Darts action this evening, but there are many who may fancy some of this.

Triumvirate. One of my favourite words.

Vir (pronounced Weir) is Latin (cue inevitable "what would you know?") for man - virtue, for example, being the quality of a man.

Tri being three.

The triumviri (he says, hoping his Roman Law isn't being misremembered again) were groups of three important fellows whose job it was to make decisions on key issues, like prisons, land and general political stuff.

This all long before Old Tom and his funny looking golf bats.

One of the reasons for the strength in Pont Alexandre is the weakness of The New One since the problems in the Nigel Twiston-Davis stable were revealed earlier this week. That would be enough to put me off backing The New One each-way, whereas a few days ago, I'd have said it looked like a good each-way bet.

Tom Segal has said a couple of times how Taquin Du Seuil is one of his strongest bets of the week. It's obviously not a handicap but if it does get the Pricewise nod it will obviously shorten.

Interesting market, not sure the favourite can get to evens or even 5/4.

Lovely to see that, no sooner is Camel's back turned that a tip gets put up of "I quite fancy this rally driver" and it gets an immedo-score.

I'm sure bobby has better reasons and has chosen to exercise discretion, but it has amused me, that.

a lot of the money today seems to have come after the Betfair preview last night Neil, the rough view was The new one must now have a squiggle, Walsh likes PA as lot which lead Nicholls to give it a good review too. I was told one of the panel said he could see it being 5/4 on the day but not sure if that is true as I missed it

Rumbled.

You are right - Bobby & I did discuss this off-thread before it was put up, & there was a good thought behind the bet, there is reason to believe his price is quite wrong, but it would be wrong to go into detail here. Sometimes, as you suggest, a little discretion is necessary.

In due course, we shall see.....

I was at the preview at the Sydney Arms where Daryl Jacob was pretty open about quite how bullish Ruby is about the horse. Spoke to mate who was at the Betfair one and he had heard similar things there.

It may not make it to Evs but if Fred can't trade the position profitably, all things considered, I would be very surprised.

TK - Good to hear Fred's bet is fully matched. Await deployment of phase 2...

There is a weird (&, doubtless, to most, boring) story as to how I first came to know & use that lovely word. My knowledge of it goes back - precisely - to 1979.

Before I bore everyone to death with it, what understanding do you have of the word "troika"?

Troika is a Russian word "set of three" usally used in judicial, political and military terminology

Three Troikas, iirc was a very famous French racehorse in the mid 1970s. Head family?

"The Great Triumverate" of golf  was comprised of Harry Vardon, J.H.Taylor and James Braid.

They played around the turn of the 20th century and were at least a hundred years after both Old and Young Tom Morris.

<edit> Make that fifty years.

CORAL HAIL SPRINTER SACRE OFFER AS THEIR MOST SUCCESSFUL EVER

 * Sprinter Sacre Trends On Twitter As 15,000 Place Bets At Evens *

Coral this afternoon hailed their headline Cheltenham Festival offer of "Evens on Sprinter Sacre" as the most successful promotion they have ever offered on any horse racing event, and then confirmed it will run for several more days at least.

The Even money offer on Sprinter Sacre was launched by Coral at 9am this morning and by 5pm over 15,000 customers had taken advantage of the offer at an average stake of £18.

“The incredible demand from customers has exceeded our expectations but not surprised us as we knew we were offering an irresistible price about the star of next week’s Cheltenham Festival. Twitter went ballistic in the morning with over 95% of the conversations about Sprinter Sacre discussing our offer and at 10am Sprinter Sacre was trending on twitter,” said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

“This is just the start though as we are going to continue the offer for at least the next few days so anyone and everyone who wants to get Evens about the shortest priced Festival favourite since Arkle will have ample time to do so,” promised Clare.

“There were some gripes about our decision to restrict a minority of customers to £10 but the vast majority got the full £20 at the promotional price but with such huge demand we want to stretch the offer out for as long as possible and have given priority to our regular customers and new accounts” added Clare.

“This is already the biggest and best offer we have ever run and with TV advertising starting tomorrow we expect our liabilities to hit seven figures sometime this weekend”, concluded Clare.

I'm not anti the horse by the way. It could easily cut up and be an eight runner race.

Troika, was also a pottery factory in St Ives.

I used to make good money flogging them to the trendy galleries in Kensington back in the 80s.
