Liber Nauticus runs in the 2.45 York this afternoon and her effort will effect our Oaks portfolio.

If she bombs Secret Gesture will be somewhere around 5/2, which is good for the AP bet, but Moth's chance will also improve, which won't be good for our Aidan blankage punt. If she bolts up she'll go favourite for Epsom, which would be OK.

Good stuff, will try & watch that.

We have a tidy sum invested in the Oaks, one way & another.

I do like to see Classic racehorses well-named - what a great name "Moth" is. It does not appear to be related to it's breeding though. (Pieds de Plume / Seattle Slew).

I have limited availability today and the prices aren't up yet on the chess in Norway.

Magnus Carlsen plays the comp's other Norwegian, John Hammer, today.

He is a distant bottom seed, although has managed one scalp so far.

Aronian played him yesterday. The price started (as White) at 1.952 but was 1.7 by the time the clocks were started.

If Carlsen is even money or better today, I would advocate a bet of £30. Colours matter little to Carlsen and there is a standard factor bookies tend to add to mean Black is a bigger price (think of him as a team that has a good away record).

Carlsen has won his last two games, including against the leader, and has closed the gap from two points to ½:

Price will appear here this morning. Leave it alone if it is <2

Thanks Simon.

I'll take a look again a bit later, as the prices are still not up at present.

I've just had a quick look at this and Carlsen is, unfortunately, 1.68.

Just saw that and hoped Fred had gobbled up the value Cheesy

Aronian as White is more likely to beat him than Carlsen with Black. Aronian opened up at 1.952 so that's quite an annoying price.

Anand at 9/2 is a good number, as he is playing the best chess in the tournament right now and Radjabov is just off the back of getting Carlsened (getting to a level endgame that looks drawn and somehow getting nurdled into a lost game). Anand very nearly pulled off his second masterpiece of the tournament yesterday.

I also like Nakamura at 8.4, but I suspect he'll be happy with a draw today against the leader and so will his opponent, so perhaps that is a dodge.

Didn't Chelsea win both games against Arsenal? Does head to head not count?

Also, if there were a playoff, where would it be? Would it be two legs?

Knowing how inconsiderate the footballling authorities are to fans, Manchester probably.

Arsene Wenger and Rafa Benitez could face the nightmare of a play-off over third place in the Premier League.

Wenger's Arsenal, who beat Wigan 4-1 on Tuesday, and Benitez-managed Chelsea are agonisingly close to finishing with the same points (73), same goal difference (+35), and even the same number of goals scored (73) and conceded (38) after this weekend's final round of matches.

If the Gunners win 2-1 at Newcastle on Sunday and the Stamford Bridge club draw 0-0 at home Everton, the clubs will be tied with identical figures.

The Premier League confirmed on Tuesday night that Chelsea's home-and-away wins over their London rivals would not be used as a tie-breaker.

Instead, there would have to be a one-off game at a neutral venue, presumably Wembley, to settle third place - with automatic entry to the Champions League's group phase at stake.

The losers would finish fourth and have to negotiate a two-leg play-off in August to reach the Champions League proper,

I reckon it'll just be a coin-toss should the situation occur.

It was actually pointed out last night on twitter by some gooners that another goal could possibly make a difference.

If the spuds draw 6-6 on Sunday and we lose 15-0 there could also be a play-off for 4th place, I'm informed by my stats man.

Im just going to a meeting and I've failed to get much on this one so I shall happily give to Fred.

Usually I would say this is a very strong bet on form and shape of race (dirty each-way). I have had extra info which suggests the price is going to shorten more than it already has so I'd be recommending as big as you dare.

The 1.55 Uttoxeter has a favourite with solid form in Silver Eagle who won over shorter at Wetherby. Having described this as having an "outstanding chance" the trainer went on to say that all his runners would need good or faster ground. I think they've had 24m of rain overnight and the going is now G/S with soft in places. The horse has never actually been 3m and I don't think I'd take 4/6 a potentially doubtful stayer on potentially unsuitable ground.

The "second favourite" Any Currency is a massive plodder. It was tailed off in the National, a race I backed it to finish in the top 10 in. It really loves soft and heavy ground but it may not have the toe for these hurdlers.

I went through the five horses who are 100/1 and upwards and I really couldn't make any case for them at all. All look outclassed here.

Letemgo has run OK on heavy ground and ran OK last time. That was over 2m4f though and the time before it looked like it failed to stay 2m6f. That could have been due to inexperience. This one is interesting but not a solid frame horse.

I was left with Wishes and Stars. This one unseated when possibly going to win at Wincanton recently. It then ran over a shorter trip at Stratford. It was outpaced and then ran on. I think he's crying out for this trip and I really fancy the horse to be in the three.

Usually I would be delighted to be on this each-way. Having heard of massive support expected for this from a great source I am now thinking this will go off 2nd favourite. I could easily see this starting 11/4.

Suggest very strong each-way bet at 5/1 Betfred (Hills bloody went 4/1 while I was typing).

I'd happily take 4/1 this (I'm on tiny at 6/1).
