The Wie putting style is fairly new and has apparently moved her up the ladies putting rankings by a fair bit.  I can't help thinking that it must put terrible strain on her back.

Yes, agree, but if it is improving her game, good luck to her.

In golf, the textbook swings, grips & stances are well established, but it is remarkable how many golfers eschew the textbook & have really bad - well, unconventional - swings & grips - & still succeed.

Wiggle Waggle & Furyk are perfect examples - immensely successful, but if you took those swings to a Golf Coach he'd look at it in horror.

I quite like unconventional styles. Reminds me a little of poker, where we see players who play unconventionally - technically bad according the the younger generation -  still manage to hold their own. Folks like Larence Gosney, for example, or Rastafish, get castigated left right & centre, but they do OK it seems to me.

Piggott rode too long, Chris Eubank held his hands too low, Connor introduced the then oddity of a double handed backhand, Botham was a terrible bowler yet took wickets galore with bad balls. Lordy Lordy, some memories there.

I think when the broom handle putter has had its day, we shall really start to see a host of other "unique" putting stances.

Great report Rich, thank you, especially enjoyed Hoilett went in the fetlock

Did not enjoy this quite as much.....

On one of the busiest trading days for the thread ever the result in the end was a loss of £52 with 21 seperate bets settling

Bit of blame for that sits with me, I got in a bit of a tizwaz on Friday night & Saturday morning, with so much stuff coming in, much of it because the Football Season was about to start proper.

The one that hurt was missing Doobs first "triple £25 affair", which won, then getting on the next one, with seconds to spare - which lost. £75 lost, & a £200 swing, there & then, & but for me cocking those up, we turn a profit.

redarmi mentioned a week or so ago that really, we ought to up our volume, do more bets, exploit smaller edges, worry less about ROI than profit, & I'm sure he's right.

Anyway it was a fun day, loads of buzz, & in the greater scheme of things, £52 is nothing.

Rather pleasing actually to see our winners cover such a wide spectrum of sport - Golf, Rugby League, Boxing, Football, Horse Racing, & Cricket.

In truth, considering what we had invested, & tipping our hat to variance, that was really an excellent result in some ways.

*Clears throat*

Adz is right.

Magnum opus is your great work; it is generally an artist (writer)'s defining work, but with the condition that is also one of their biggest.

Canterbury Tales, War and Peace, Ulysses, Paradise Lost, Ricky Villa in 1981 and so on.

That wasn't the writer's intention, though, so it's a 'no fault' situation IMO. Superbly written, might I add?

A conversation for another thread, probably, but compare and contrast the likes of Roger Federer, Tiger Woods and Ronnie O'Sullivan. Couldn't do better than basing the text book on their playing style.

Anyone near Wakefield and can give me a report on how much rain you had yesterday/overnight and if it is wet today? I am not asking as I am thinking of a day trip today, it is bet related. Thanks in advance. I should have done this for Thursday game as I had weather concerns then.

I always remember thinking how does he hit a ball like that. Sadly I think when he lost his touch his game was beyond recovery due to his style
